PHP Backend Developer (Laravel)

Mission:
Accelerate backend development, support our core engineering team, and tackle the project backlog—all while maintaining high code quality and systematically refactoring legacy components.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop core backend features for a mobile data management platform (eSIM and physical SIM cards).
• Design and implement robust REST API endpoints.
• Maintain existing code and drive the gradual refactoring of legacy modules.
• Optimize application performance and SQL query execution.
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests.
• Participate actively in code reviews.
• Automate repetitive tasks using AI agents (e.g., provider integrations, boilerplate API endpoints, test generation)—reducing delivery times on routine tasks from days to hours.

Requirements (Must-Have):

• 4+ years of commercial backend development experience; strong proficiency in PHP 8.1+ (our stack is currently on PHP 8.4).
• 2+ years of experience with modern versions of (Laravel 10+).
• Solid *MySQL skills *(schema design, indexing, query optimization, reading EXPLAIN execution plans).
• Hands-on experience writing unit and integration tests (PHPUnit or Pest).
• Proficiency with Docker / docker-compose, Git, PR workflows, and code reviews.
• Strong understanding of SOLID principles and fundamental design patterns.
• Comfortable diving into existing codebases, understanding third-party logic, and executing clean refactoring.
• English: Beginner/Elementary (A1+) or higher (sufficient for reading technical documentation).
• Practical experience with or a strong understanding of how AI agents enhance developer velocity.
• Ability to rigorously evaluate AI-generated code, verify its correctness, and explain its underlying logic.

Nice-to-Have:

• Experience with message queues (Redis, RabbitMQ, Laravel Queue).
• Familiarity with static analysis tools (PHPStan / Larastan).
• CI/CD experience (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, etc.).
• Experience with Modular Monolith or Microservices architecture.
• Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) or Clean Architecture principles.
• Cloud experience with AWS or Azure.
• Prior domain experience in Telecommunications / Telecom.
• Advanced AI Workflow Skills:
• Task decomposition for effective delegation to AI agents.
• Ability to catch subtle bugs, hallucinations, and edge-case flaws in AI-generated code.
• Experience crafting system prompts, reusable instructions, and agent personas over one-off queries.
• Capability to design multi-stage agent workflows (Analysis → Planning → Coding → Testing).
• Experience integrating agents with external environments (MCP servers, tech docs, task trackers/Jira).
• A clear grasp of AI limitations—knowing when automation drives efficiency versus when manual coding is superior.
