This is a role for someone who enjoys working across disciplines and getting into the detail — from the first concept and CAD model, through prototyping and engineering development, to tooling, manufacturing and final production.

The Role

We're looking for a Product Designer with strong mechanical engineering and consumer electronics experience to join our team.

You'll be responsible for helping take physical products from early-stage concepts through to production. You'll work across product design, mechanical engineering, electronics integration, prototyping, supplier development and manufacturing.

The ideal candidate is someone who doesn't see a hard boundary between design and engineering. You understand that a great product needs to look good and feel great, but also needs to work reliably, be cost-effective and be designed from the outset for efficient manufacture.

You'll have significant ownership and the opportunity to influence how products are conceived, designed and brought to market.

What You'll Do

• Develop new consumer electronic products from initial concept through to production.
• Translate product ideas, user requirements and commercial objectives into practical physical products.
• Create concepts, sketches, 3D CAD models, assemblies and detailed engineering drawings.
• Design mechanical components, housings, mechanisms and assemblies.
• Integrate electronics, PCBs, batteries, connectors, displays, sensors and other components into physical products.
• Work closely with electrical/electronic engineering to resolve mechanical and electronic integration challenges.
• Develop prototypes and rapidly iterate designs based on testing and feedback.
• Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles throughout the development process.
• Work directly with manufacturers and suppliers on tooling, materials, tolerances, finishes and production processes.
• Support products through engineering validation, pilot builds and mass production.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, manufacturing and product-quality issues.
• Develop and maintain BOMs, drawings, specifications and other product documentation.
• Evaluate materials and manufacturing processes to achieve the right combination of performance, quality, aesthetics and cost.
• Participate in product reviews and make informed engineering and design trade-offs.
• Help build and improve Brydge's product development processes as the company continues to grow.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who combines creative product thinking with strong engineering capability.

Essential

• Experience designing and developing physical consumer products, ideally consumer electronics.
• Strong mechanical engineering or product development background.
• Excellent 3D CAD skills and experience creating production-ready designs.
• Experience taking products from concept through prototyping and into manufacture.
• Strong understanding of materials, mechanical components, tolerances and manufacturing processes.
• Practical understanding of electronics and how electronic systems need to be integrated into physical products.
• Hands-on experience with DFM/DFA.
• Experience working directly with manufacturers and suppliers.
• A practical, problem-solving mindset and willingness to get involved in the detail.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a remote, multidisciplinary team.

Particularly Valuable

• Experience with high-volume consumer electronics.
• Experience with injection moulding and tooling.
• Experience with CNC machining, die casting, sheet metal or other manufacturing processes.
• Experience designing products incorporating PCBs, batteries, displays, connectors and cable assemblies.
• Understanding of tolerance analysis and GD&T.
• Experience with plastics, elastomers, adhesives and cosmetic finishes.
• Experience managing products through NPI and production ramp.
• Experience working with manufacturing partners in Asia.
• Familiarity with rapid prototyping technologies and hands-on prototype development.
• Experience with product compliance, certification and reliability testing.

Your Technical Toolkit

We don't expect you to have every skill listed below, but experience with several of these would be highly valuable:

• SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, NX or similar 3D CAD
• Technical drawings and GD&T
• Injection moulding and tooling
• CNC machining
• Rapid prototyping / 3D printing
• Materials selection
• PCB and electronics integration
• Tolerance analysis
• BOM and product documentation
• Prototype testing and validation
• Supplier and manufacturing management

The Person

You might describe yourself as a product designer, mechanical engineer, product development engineer, mechatronics engineer or hardware engineer. We're more interested in what you've actually built than the title on your CV.

You're curious, hands-on and comfortable getting into the weeds.

You can take a rough idea and turn it into a CAD model. You can look at a prototype and work out why something isn't working. You understand why a seemingly simple design change can have major implications for tooling or assembly. And you enjoy working with manufacturers to solve those problems.

You're also comfortable making decisions with imperfect information. We're an established company, but we're still operating with a start-up mentality — which means things move quickly, roles aren't rigidly defined, and people are expected to take ownership.

You won't just be handed a specification and asked to execute it. You'll help shape the product itself.

Compensation

Salary is negotiable based on experience and level.
