Founding Full Stack Developer (Netherlands or Portugal)

We are looking for a full stack engineer who builds software that stays clear, fast and dependable when the people using it are under real pressure.

Praetori builds Continuous Control Infrastructure: one sovereign software layer that keeps the operational picture, the decision and the action connected while conditions change, for Europe's defence, intelligence and critical-infrastructure operators.

This role is open to candidates based in the Netherlands (hybrid out of our Haarlem base) and candidates based in Portugal (working from home with part-time time in our Porto office).

About the role

The interface between an operator and the system is where our software earns trust or loses it. Our users make consequential decisions in compressed time, often in degraded conditions. The product has to make the right action obvious, absorb complexity on their behalf, and never get in the way. That standard runs from the pixel to the data model.

You own significant parts of the product end to end: architecture, interfaces, data flows and performance.

What you'll do

• Design and build core product features end to end, from data model and API to interface.
• Build interfaces in TypeScript, React and Next.js that stay clear and responsive under pressure.
• Design backend services and APIs in Node.js that are correct, observable and fast.
• Treat performance as a feature. Latency, responsiveness and reliability are part of the product.
• Work with design to turn complex operational workflows into interfaces that feel inevitable.
• Harden field prototypes from forward deployed engineers into production-grade features.

• Deep TypeScript expertise across the stack, with strong React and Next.js on the front end.
• Solid backend engineering in Node.js: APIs, data modelling and services built to last.
• Real care for UX and product outcomes. Fluent English. Right to work in the EU.

Nice to have

• Complex, data-dense or real-time interfaces: dashboards, operational tooling, mapping, monitoring.
• Background in high-reliability software where failure carries real consequences.
• Interest in the mission: defence, security and critical infrastructure.

Pay

Portugal: EUR 42,000 to 58,000 gross per year, plus meaningful equity and a performance bonus. Netherlands: market-rate salary, equity and bonus.

Process

Three interviews: a 60 minute first interview, a 90 minute live technical session worked together (no take-home), and a conversation with the co-founders. Then references and EU security screening.
