Our global presence provides an opportunity for all employees to collaborate internationally, offering visibility and the opportunity to directly contribute to the company's success. We realize that our strength and competitive advantage lie with our people. We support our employees in several ways to foster a healthy working environment, meaningful work, mobility, networking, and work-life balance. Our competitive compensation and benefit programs reflect Boehringer Ingelheim's high regard for our employees.
Reporting to the Vice President, Customer Engagement & Transformation, the Executive Director, Go to Market Planning and Activation runs the Go to Market Planning & Activation pillar — the operating engine that builds the capability of Human Pharma’s customer-facing and home-office teams and gets our assets to market as one coordinated organization. This role works directly with the Therapeutic Areas, Medicine, Patient Excellence, and Value & Access to understand what each group needs and to put the right offering against it — whether that is field training, account and marketplace capability, leadership and business acumen development, launch readiness support, or GTM ecosystem and customer planning. This role embeds with these teams to understand their strategic plans, anticipate the capability gaps that will constrain execution, and deploy the pillar's resources to close them ahead of need.
The ED, GTM Planning and Activation leads five strategic training offerings, Therapeutic Area Field Training, Medicine Training, Marketplace & Account Training, Business Leadership & Training, and Strategic Skills. Together these teams deliver product and disease-state training across Oncology, ILD, CRM, Cardio-Renal, Respiratory, Obesity/Liver Health; Medical for all TAs; SAM and account-management capability across PACE, RAAD, ILD, Oncology, and V&A; onboarding, certification, coaching, and manager effectiveness; and enterprise skills including customer engagement, business acumen, marketing excellence, Veeva and omnichannel, and AI enablement. This role is accountable for keeping each of these types of training close to the customer it serves while running them as one capability — curricula built once and leveraged everywhere, with the ability to flex resources to where the need is greatest.
The ED, GTM Planning and Activation also owns Launch Excellence and GTM Readiness. Launch Excellence covers cross-functional launch strategy, milestones, dependencies, and readiness tracking across the asset portfolio, delivered through dedicated Launch Managers per asset. GTM Readiness is a capability that partners with asset teams to map local care delivery ecosystems, translate those insights into customer plans through ICC CAREPATH and ICP, and structure how customer-facing teams engage those ecosystems — so markets are mapped, aligned, and operationalized before Day 1 rather than after it.
Across all seven teams, the Executive Director sets standards, ways of working, and operating cadences that reduce fragmentation and rework, and is accountable for the capability, succession depth, and performance of the pillar.
This position is in Ridgefield, CT.
Duties & Responsibilities
Training capability leadership – Lead the Human Pharma training capability through five strategic offerings, serving customer-facing and home-office teams across every therapeutic area and function:
Set the training strategy and annual curriculum plan across TA Field Training, Medicine, Marketplace & Account Training, Business Leadership & Training, and Strategic Skills
Ensure product, disease-state, and selling capability is delivered across Onc, ILD, CRM, Cardio-Renal, Respiratory, and O/L, and that SAM and account teams have the marketplace, payer, and access fluency required for complex account selling
Own onboarding, certification, role-based learning, coaching, and manager effectiveness programs
Build enterprise strategic skills — marketing excellence, customer engagement, business acumen, Veeva and omnichannel, and AI capability and adoption — built once and deployed across all TAs including Medicine
Keep trainers aligned to the TAs they serve while running one capability, flexing resources to the areas of greatest need
Set instructional standards, content quality, and certification requirements across all training teams
Launch Excellence – Own cross-functional launch readiness across the asset portfolio, delivered through dedicated Launch Managers per asset:
Define the launch framework, milestones, dependencies, and stage gates used across assets
Run launch readiness tracking and the operating cadence with asset teams and cross-functional partners
Ensure clear ownership of who is doing what by when across Commercial, Medicine, V&A, and Patient Excellence
Surface risks and gaps early and drive them to resolution ahead of Day 1
Capture and apply learnings from each launch to the next
GTM Readiness – Stand up and run the GTM Readiness capability, partnering with asset teams to map, align, and operationalize local care delivery ecosystems ahead of execution:
Establish a standardized GTM framework, governance, and operational playbook so planning is repeatable rather than ad hoc
Own ecosystem and influence mapping — stakeholder mapping, data analysis, market archetyping, and ecosystem profiling
Drive strategic customer planning through ICC CAREPATH and ICP, translating ecosystem insight into clear value propositions and executable customer plans
Define ways of working and engagement models across customer-facing teams so Sales, Medical, Patient Support, and Access engage local systems in a coordinated way
Partner with asset teams through the GTM journey rather than handing over a playbook, and run the operating cadence that sustains it
Own business productivity support to the asset and customer-facing teams
