About the job
Summary
We are seeking a mechanical designer to develop a compact mechanical integration solution for an augmented reality (AR) system installed on an Avon FM50 gas mask.
The work will involve developing mounting, enclosure, and component-placement concepts for electronic and optical hardware located both inside and outside the mask. The design must account for the FM50’s limited available space while minimizing obstruction to the wearer’s field of view and avoiding interference with normal mask operation.
Key considerations include secure component mounting, cable and flex routing, adjustability of the AR display relative to the user’s eye, protection of sensitive electronics and interconnects, serviceability, and minimizing protrusions or snag points.
The designer will work from existing electronic assemblies, CAD models, dimensional constraints, and system requirements to develop a practical prototype-ready mechanical solution. Experience with wearable electronics, head-mounted displays, ruggedized equipment, or respirator/gas-mask integration is preferred.
