About the job
Senior Software Engineer
HydroJug, Inc. — Systems Team / Engineering (Apps)
Ogden, UT | On-Site | Reports to VP of Systems (Jordan Brandley)
About the Role
HydroJug builds and runs the internal systems the rest of the company operates on — the applications covering accounting, warehouse, product lifecycle, CRM, supplier management, integrations, and operational planning, with engineers dedicated to each domain. This role is the senior technical anchor for that group. You own the architecture and the shared data model those applications are built on, set the engineering standards the team works to, and take the hardest builds yourself.
This is a hands-on senior individual-contributor role, not a people-management layer. You lead through architecture, code, and mentorship. A significant part of the job is converting systems that were built quickly into a coherent platform that scales — the surface area is wide and the work is consequential.
Responsibilities
- Architecture & Data Model — Own the architecture of the internal application platform and the shared, brand-dimensioned data model beneath it; if a record or metric cannot be segmented by brand, it is not finished
- Engineering Standards — Define and enforce the standards the team builds to: code review, testing, deployment discipline, and documentation
- Full-Stack Delivery — Build end to end across internal web applications, APIs, data pipelines, and system integrations; ship the highest-stakes work personally
- Systems Integration — Design and maintain the integration layer connecting NetSuite, the storefront platform, EDI trading partners, the BigQuery data warehouse, and the third-party application stack
- Platform Consolidation — Replace overlapping point solutions and fragile tooling with durable, well-modeled services teams can rely on
- Mentorship — Level up the domain engineers through code review, pairing, and technical guidance; raise the team's ceiling rather than absorbing all the hard work
- Reliability — Own the performance, data integrity, and uptime of the applications operations and finance depend on daily; lead diagnosis on the difficult failures
- Stakeholder Partnership — Work directly with the VP of Systems and business stakeholders to scope requirements, size the work honestly, and make sure what gets built is what teams actually need
Qualifications
Required
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including time in a Senior, Staff, Lead, or Principal role
- Full-stack range: internal web applications, APIs, and data pipelines
- Proficiency in a back-end language (Python, Node.js, Go, or equivalent) and a modern front-end framework (React, Vue, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience designing data models for operational domains such as inventory, orders, forecasts, or financial records
- Experience building internal business systems and integrations, including at least one ERP or comparable system of record
- Track record of setting technical standards and mentoring other engineers
- Pragmatic scoping judgment — the ability to size work to its impact, manage technical debt, and keep systems from degrading over time
- Ability to work directly with non-technical stakeholders and translate business process into working software
Preferred
- NetSuite experience, particularly in a multi-entity or multi-brand configuration
- Cloud data warehouse experience (BigQuery or equivalent), including pipeline and schema ownership
- EDI or retail-partner integration experience
- Ecommerce, retail, or supply-chain domain background
- Experience stabilizing or re-architecting a system that was built fast and outgrew its original design
- Fluency building with AI tooling, and experience raising a team's effectiveness with it
Reporting & Organization
Reports to the VP of Systems (Jordan Brandley) on the Systems team's Engineering (Apps) group, and serves as the senior technical anchor for the engineers who each own a business-system domain. This is a senior IC role: no direct people-management reporting line, but it owns the architecture, technical standards, code review, and mentorship for the applications group. Partners with the Senior Web Developer on cross-platform standards and with the Director of Data Analytics on the shared data platform. On-site in Ogden, UT.
