POSITION SUMMARY

The Backend Software Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing backend services for our minimum viable product, primarily in Spring Boot. This individual has a strong resolve, excellent communication ability, and the initiative to solve problems in a fast-paced startup environment. The ideal candidate would possess strong production experience within Spring Boot Java, is capable of implementing various technologies in tandem as part of MVP requirements, and is a positive highly-collaborative influence within our lean and motivated engineering team.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues, and is capable of wearing many hats.

REQUIRED SKILLS - TECHNICAL

Below is a summary of the technology skills we need, ordered from highest to lowest priority:

Spring Boot Java | WorkOS | AWS S3 | MongoDB/NoSQL | GIS

For each item below, please be prepared to explain how much of the work you personally performed and in what setting.

1. Deep familiarity designing, building, and maintaining backend services and APIs using Spring Boot Java
2. Hands-on experience implementing Role-Based Access Control in WorkOS, and writing robust and secure systems that survive the scrutiny of enterprise confidentiality requirements
3. Experience implementing services in AWS S3
4. Experience integrating services with MongoDB (or similar NoSQL) data stores
5. Solid understanding of datatypes and where they belong (data modeling across application layers)
6. Experience translating business requirements into sound, maintainable business logic

1. Experience designing systems from the ground up
2. Familiarity with cloud deployment and CI/CD pipelines
3. Experience with implementation of third-party payment processors
4. The willingness to relocate to Chattanooga, TN
