Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Technology Leadership
Position Overview
We are seeking a practical, business-focused Enterprise Architect to provide architectural leadership across a complex and evolving technology ecosystem.
The Enterprise Architect will work horizontally across business and technology teams to understand the current technology landscape, define future-state architecture, evaluate proposed solutions, identify integration and data dependencies, and ensure technology decisions align with broader business objectives.
This role is particularly important as the organization accelerates its digital and e-commerce transformation and manages a growing portfolio of technology initiatives.
The ideal candidate is not a purely theoretical or governance-focused architect. We are looking for someone who is hands-on, solution-oriented, technically strong, commercially aware, and comfortable challenging proposed designs and identifying risks before they become problems.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise & Solution Architecture
Develop and maintain a clear understanding of the organization’s current-state technology architecture.
Define and guide future-state enterprise architecture aligned with business strategy.
Identify gaps, risks, dependencies, and opportunities between current and future states.
Participate in technology initiatives from the early concept and discovery stages.
Review solution designs and ensure they align with enterprise architecture principles.
Challenge proposed solutions when appropriate and identify potential technical or business risks.
Establish practical architecture standards, patterns, and best practices.
Integration & Data Architecture
Analyze end-to-end integration flows across applications and platforms.
Evaluate APIs, middleware, real-time and batch integration approaches.
Understand data ownership, movement, transformation, and consumption across systems.
Identify data integrity, synchronization, and downstream impact concerns.
Assess how new solutions will affect enterprise systems, reporting, and dependent applications.
Identify opportunities to reuse existing enterprise capabilities rather than introducing unnecessary technologies.
E-Commerce & Digital Transformation
Provide architecture leadership for e-commerce and digital transformation initiatives.
Evaluate new commerce capabilities and their integration with existing enterprise systems.
Support initiatives involving customer experience, digital sales, upselling, cross-selling, product configuration, and online purchasing.
Assess the architecture and integration implications of new e-commerce platforms, configurators, and digital experiences.
Ensure digital solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with the broader enterprise ecosystem.
Technology & Vendor Evaluation
Participate in technology evaluations, RFPs, vendor assessments, and solution selection.
Review vendor architecture proposals and identify strengths, weaknesses, risks, and dependencies.
Provide objective technical recommendations to business and technology leadership.
Evaluate whether proposed technologies fit within the existing enterprise architecture.
Identify potential integration, scalability, data, security, and operational concerns before implementation.
Business & Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner closely with business leaders, product teams, project managers, developers, infrastructure teams, integration teams, and vendors.
Translate business requirements into practical technology and architecture decisions.
Develop a strong understanding of business processes and how technology enables revenue generation and customer experience.
Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Facilitate architecture discussions and drive alignment across teams.
Current Technology Environment
The architect will work across a diverse technology ecosystem that may include:
BigCommerce – Enterprise commerce platform
AIS – Middleware / integration layer
Oracle – Enterprise backend and core data
Salesforce – CRM and show-management capabilities
Espresso / .NET – Legacy/custom web application environment
CMS and modern front-end technologies
Reporting and downstream business systems
APIs, integration services, and enterprise data flows
Experience with these specific platforms is valuable, but strong enterprise integration and architecture experience is more important than expertise in any single technology.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
10+ years of experience in IT, architecture, solution architecture, enterprise architecture, or related technical roles.
Demonstrated experience designing and reviewing architectures spanning multiple applications and technology domains.
Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns, APIs, middleware, and distributed systems.
Strong understanding of enterprise data flows, data dependencies, and data integrity.
Experience defining current-state and future-state architectures.
Experience conducting architecture reviews and technical solution assessments.
Experience working with both business and technical stakeholders.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to operate effectively in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with e-commerce, digital commerce, or digital transformation initiatives.
Experience with BigCommerce, Salesforce, Oracle, .NET, CMS, or comparable enterprise platforms.
Experience with enterprise middleware and integration platforms.
Experience with cloud technologies and modern application architectures.
Experience with APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture, and system integration.
Experience with legacy modernization and application replacement initiatives.
Experience participating in vendor evaluations and RFP processes.
Experience working in organizations with multiple business units and technology silos.
Experience in enterprise data and reporting ecosystems.
What Success Looks Like
The successful candidate will:
Connect the dots across applications, integrations, data, and business processes.
Help project teams identify architectural risks before implementation.
Ensure new technology investments fit into the broader enterprise ecosystem.
Improve the quality and consistency of architecture decisions.
Help accelerate digital and e-commerce initiatives without creating unnecessary technical debt.
Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and reuse existing enterprise capabilities.
Serve as a trusted technical advisor to both business and technology leadership.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an architect who is:
Practical rather than theoretical
Hands-on and solution-oriented
Business-focused
A strong logical and analytical thinker
Comfortable operating across multiple technology domains
Strong in integration and data-flow analysis
Comfortable challenging assumptions and “poking holes” in proposed designs
Able to balance short-term project needs with long-term enterprise strategy
Comfortable working with vendors and evaluating competing solutions
An excellent communicator who can work with executives, business users, project teams, and engineers
Forward-thinking while remaining pragmatic about existing systems and constraints
What This Role Is Not
This position is not intended to be solely focused on:
Architecture governance
Creating theoretical frameworks
Documentation for its own sake
Standards management without hands-on engagement
A single application or technology silo
The successful architect will be actively involved in technology decisions and solution discussions, helping teams understand the broader implications of their choices.
Working Model
This is a full-time role with a preference for candidates who can be part of a small team centered around the Houston office.
The role requires flexibility to collaborate with teams and stakeholders across:
