Senior Software Engineer, Fintech Platform

The role

Hourglass is building a business-finance platform through which commercial customers can open and operate bank-sponsored managed deposit accounts. The product spans KYB/KYC onboarding, account opening, ACH, wire and stablecoin money movement, approvals, notifications, and exception handling. We’re looking for a senior engineer to become a major technical owner of the platform and help us build and operate it safely.

This is not a narrowly defined frontend or backend role. You’ll work across product, infrastructure, integrations, internal tools, and production operations. You should use AI tools deeply to move faster while maintaining the judgment, testing, and rigor required for software that moves money.

What you’ll do

• Own critical systems spanning bank integrations, money movement, ledgering, reconciliation, notifications, exception handling, and operational controls.
• Design systems that are observable, auditable, recoverable, and safe under retries and partial failures.
• Translate bank-program, legal, compliance, and operational requirements into clear software controls.
• Take projects from architecture through implementation, rollout, incident response, and ongoing production ownership.

What we’re looking for

• Five or more years of professional engineering experience
• Experience building and operating consequential production systems at a fintech company.
• Direct exposure to a sponsor-bank program, banking platform, processor, payments network, or similarly regulated environment.
• Strong systems fundamentals, including APIs, data models, durable workflows, idempotency, audit trails, and reconciliation.
• The ability to move fluidly across the stack and take ownership of ambiguous problems.
• AI-native development experience with strong understanding of agent-orchestrated software development. Does not outsource verification or technical judgement.

Tools and Technologies

Our stack is full-stack TypeScript with a backend focus: Effect, Drizzle, Postgres, AWS, and Cloudflare. We use WorkOS and Persona for identity and onboarding. You do not need experience with every tool; strong systems judgment and fintech production experience matter more than exact stack familiarity.

• Experience building payments, treasury, ledger, risk, or bank-integration systems.
• Engineering experience at a scaled fintech such as Stripe, Ramp, Brex, BILL, or Coinbase.
• Experience at a financial-infrastructure company such as Bridge, Modern Treasury, Privy, Column, or Treasury Prime.
• An early engineer at a smaller fintech who helped launch and operate a sponsor-bank-backed product from the ground up.
• A high-agency generalist who has worked across backend, frontend, infrastructure, and production operations.
