About Glassboard

Glassboard is a hardware product development firm. We're a team of designers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and embedded software engineers who come together to build products from concept to commercialization. We work across categories like consumer products, healthcare and medical devices, industrial applications, and transportation and mobility, for clients that range from startups to Fortune 500 companies.

Overview

As a Lead Electrical Engineer at Glassboard, you will own the technical direction and delivery of programs from concept through commercialization. Beyond hands-on design, you will manage a team of electrical engineers across multiple concurrent programs, own client relationships at a strategic level, and help shape how Glassboard's electrical engineering practice grows. This role reports to the COO and works in close cooperation with the rest of the Glassboard product development team.

  • Oversee component libraries, schematic capture, and PCB layout standards across the electrical engineering team
  • Translate high level customer requirements into technical specifications, and guide other engineers in doing the same
  • Participate in and oversee prototype bring up, debugging, and functional verification
  • Lead client communications and program management, including scoping, timeline ownership, and program financials
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers, including workload allocation across concurrent programs
  • Partner with leadership on hiring, performance reviews, and career development planning for the electrical engineering team
  • Contribute to proposals and scoping for prospective electrical engineering work
  • Help define and improve internal electrical engineering processes, tools, and best practices

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in an engineering or product development focused field, including prior experience managing engineers or programs
  • Bachelor's Degree in EE/CE/EET/CET preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Consumer, automotive, industrial, or medical product development experience a plus

Required Skills

  • Schematic capture and layout experience: multi-layer (4+)
  • Familiarity with common hardware level communications such as USB, CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, etc.
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor a team of engineers across multiple concurrent projects
  • Strong program management skills, including scoping, scheduling, and client facing communication
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, balancing hands on technical work with team leadership
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with version control tools such as Git or SVN
  • Hand soldering skills (0402, QFN, BGA)
  • Demonstrated experience in hiring, coaching, or performance management of engineering staff
  • Project and budget management experience

Desired Skills

  • Schematic capture and layout experience in Altium Designer: multi-layer (6+), LVDS, USB, high speed, HDI, and flex-rigid
  • Experience developing limited firmware and software solutions in various embedded environments
  • Experience coding in JavaScript, Python, and C a plus
  • Familiar with IDEs such as Visual Studio Code, Eclipse, Keil, IAR, etc.
  • Understanding of power electronics and battery management systems
  • RF design experience and experience with regulatory certification and testing (FCC, CE, UL)
  • Experience working with wireless protocols such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, LTE, LoRa, WiFi, etc.
  • Prior experience building or scaling an engineering team or department

Benefits & Perks
