About the job
Junior Software Engineer — Part-Time Remote LATAM
Fixed Monthly Compensation: USD $800–$1,200
*Expected Workload: Approximately 1–2 focused hours per day *with the right experience
**Work Type: Part-Time · Fully Remote · LATAM
We are looking for a motivated Junior Software Engineer to join our team in a part-time, fully remote role.
Our product is mature, established, and already in production, so this is not an early-stage position where you will be expected to build everything from scratch. Most of the work involves maintaining the existing product, making improvements, fixing issues, and implementing well-defined features.
We are also an AI-friendly company. We actively encourage engineers to use modern AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot, and similar tools to research problems, understand existing code, write and review code, debug issues, and work more efficiently.
Workload and Schedule
This is a part-time, results-oriented position.
For an engineer with the right experience and technical ability, the typical workload is approximately 1–2 focused hours per day.
We care more about completing tasks correctly and on time than about tracking the number of hours you spend online.
Some days may require more or less time depending on the task, but this is not intended to be a full-time position.
The role offers a fixed monthly compensation of USD $800–$1,200, depending on experience, technical ability, English communication skills, and overall fit.
What You'll Do
- Maintain and improve an existing production software product.
- Implement small to medium-sized features.
- Investigate and fix bugs.
- Work with existing APIs, backend services, databases, and frontend components.
- Read and understand an established codebase.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-structured code.
- Use Git and participate in pull requests and code reviews.
- Communicate progress, questions, and blockers clearly.
- Use AI development tools where appropriate to improve productivity and code quality.
- Complete assigned tasks reliably and within agreed timelines.
What We're Looking For
- Approximately 1–2 years of professional software development experience.
- Strong programming fundamentals.
- Experience working with an existing production codebase.
- Familiarity with APIs, databases, Git, and modern development practices.
- Experience with at least one modern programming language or framework.
- Ability to investigate technical problems independently.
- Ability to understand requirements and complete tasks with limited supervision.
- Good judgment when using AI-assisted development tools.
- Reliable internet connection.
- Strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
A Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related degree is helpful, but equivalent practical experience is also welcome.
English Requirement
Strong spoken and written English is important for this position.
You should be comfortable:
- Participating in meetings in English.
- Understanding verbal instructions and follow-up questions.
- Explaining technical problems and solutions in English.
- Communicating through chat, email, and video calls.
- Asking questions when requirements are unclear.
A native accent is not required. Clear communication and good comprehension are what matter.
We are generally looking for B2 English proficiency or higher.
AI-Friendly Work Environment
We believe experienced engineers should use AI as a productivity tool rather than avoid it.
You are encouraged to use tools such as:
- ChatGPT
- Claude
- GitHub Copilot
- AI-powered IDEs and coding assistants
- Other appropriate development and automation tools
However, you are still responsible for understanding, reviewing, testing, and validating the code you submit.
We value engineers who know how to combine their own technical judgment with AI tools to work efficiently.
Nice to Have
Experience with some of the following is helpful but not required:
- JavaScript / TypeScript
- Python
- Node.js
- React
- REST APIs
- SQL
- PostgreSQL or MySQL
- AWS or other cloud platforms
- Docker
- Automated testing
- CI/CD
You do not need experience with every technology listed above.
Location
This is a fully remote, part-time position.
We are especially interested in candidates based in Latin America.
Candidates should be able to maintain reasonable working-hour overlap with U.S. time zones when meetings or collaboration are required.
Compensation
Fixed monthly compensation: USD $800–$1,200
The final amount will depend on:
- Professional experience
- Technical ability
- English communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Productivity and reliability
The expected workload is generally around 1–2 focused hours per day for someone with the right experience.
This role is well suited to an engineer looking for stable additional monthly income without taking on another full-time position.
Application Process
Our hiring process is straightforward:
- Application review
- Short English introduction
- Practical technical assessment
- Final discussion
When Applying
Please include:
- Your current location.
- Your years of professional software development experience.
- Your primary programming languages and technologies.
- Your current employment or availability.
- Your expected monthly compensation in USD.
- Your availability to start.
We are looking for someone who can work efficiently, communicate clearly, take ownership of assigned tasks, and use both technical experience and modern AI tools to deliver high-quality work.
