About the job
Role ###
We're looking for a Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer who has experience building and operating high-scale production systems.
You should be someone who understands software as well as infrastructure—you can write code, debug production applications, reason about distributed systems, and design the infrastructure needed to run them reliably at scale.
You'll work closely with backend and infrastructure engineers to build the platform that enables the product to scale reliably, deploy quickly, and operate with minimal manual intervention.
This is a hands-on role with significant ownership and technical depth.
What You'll Own
- Design and operate highly available, scalable production infrastructure on GCP.
- Build the infrastructure and platform required to support rapidly growing applications and services.
- Design and maintain CI/CD and deployment systems that enable engineers to ship safely and frequently.
- Design and manage CDN infrastructure to efficiently serve high volumes of static and dynamic content.
- Work with Google Cloud Media CDN for high-scale delivery of video and other media-heavy workloads.
- Optimize caching, cache invalidation, origins, routing, and content delivery performance.
- Work closely with engineering teams across PHP, Node.js, and MERN stack applications.
- Improve system reliability, performance, scalability, and operational efficiency.
- Build strong observability across infrastructure and applications—metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and meaningful alerts.
- Establish and improve SLOs, SLIs, alerting, incident response, and disaster recovery practices.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues spanning application, infrastructure, networking, databases, and cloud services.
- Participate in architecture discussions and help engineers design systems that are easier to deploy and operate.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and automate them away.
- Own production incidents from detection through root-cause analysis and permanent remediation.
- Build secure infrastructure using appropriate IAM, networking, secrets management, and least-privilege practices.
- Help make infrastructure decisions around capacity, reliability, performance, and cloud cost.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or a similar role.
- Demonstrated experience operating large-scale production applications.
- Strong hands-on experience with GCP and production cloud infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of Docker and containerized applications.
- Experience with Google Cloud Storage / GCS buckets and large-scale object storage.
- Strong understanding of CDN architecture, caching, cache invalidation, origins, and content delivery.
- Experience with Google Cloud CDN and/or Media CDN is highly desirable.
- Comfortable working with production application code, not just infrastructure configuration.
- Strong understanding of Linux, networking, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, load balancing, firewalls, and cloud networking.
- Strong programming/scripting ability in PHP and/or Node.js.
- Experience building and operating CI/CD systems.
- Deep understanding of production reliability, including high availability, failure modes, capacity planning, monitoring, and disaster recovery.
- Experience debugging difficult production problems across multiple layers of a system.
- Strong understanding of cloud security, IAM, networking, secrets, and access control.
- Strong experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL, including performance, backups, replication/high availability, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Experience diagnosing production issues across the full stack—from application code to database, infrastructure, storage, and CDN.
- Strong ownership—you should be comfortable taking a problem from “this is broken” to understanding why, fixing it, and ensuring it doesn't happen again.
Technologies
You don't need experience with every technology listed below, but you should be strong in the fundamentals.
Our Technology Stack
Cloud: Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Compute: Google Cloud Engine, Google Cloud Run
Containers: Docker
Languages: PHP, Node.js
Application stacks: PHP applications, Node.js services, MERN stack
Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL
Storage: Google Cloud Storage / GCS buckets
Content Delivery: Google Cloud CDN, Media CDN
CI/CD: Automated CI/CD pipelines
Networking: VPC, DNS, load balancing, HTTPS/TLS, firewalls, NAT, private networking
Observability: Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, application monitoring, metrics, logs and alerts
What We Value
Engineering over tooling.
We care less about whether you've used a particular tool and more about whether you understand the underlying problem.
Automation over manual operations.
If something needs to be done repeatedly, you should be thinking about how to automate it.
Reliability over heroics.
We want systems that don't require someone to wake up at 3 AM every week.
Ownership over ticket completion.
You should care about the outcome, not just whether a task was completed.
Understanding over checklists.
You should be able to explain why a system works the way it does—and what happens when it fails.
Why This Role
You'll have the opportunity to work on real distributed systems at scale, make foundational infrastructure decisions, and have a direct impact on how reliably and quickly the engineering organization can build and ship software.
If you enjoy solving hard problems at the intersection of software, infrastructure, cloud, and distributed systems, we'd love to talk.
