About the job
About the Role
We’re looking for a QA Engineer to help ensure Nosh delivers a reliable cooking experience across our hardware, firmware, on-device Android application, and mobile app.
Nosh is a smart cooking device that runs Android with a dedicated application, while embedded firmware controls various physical cooking operations. Users can also monitor and control Nosh remotely through our mobile application.
This is a hands-on product QA role. You’ll work with actual Nosh devices, test real cooking scenarios, find corner cases, validate new features, and ensure software and firmware work correctly together.
What You’ll Do
- Test Nosh end-to-end across hardware, firmware, Android app, and mobile app.
- Test new features before release and perform regression testing on existing functionality.
- Design and execute test cases for real-world cooking scenarios and unusual corner cases.
- Try to break the product by testing unexpected user behavior and failure conditions.
- Test scenarios such as power interruptions, Wi-Fi loss, device restarts, incorrect user actions, interrupted cooking, delayed commands, and connectivity recovery.
- Test the Android application running directly on the Nosh device.
- Test remote monitoring and control of Nosh through our mobile application.
- Verify synchronization between the physical Nosh device and mobile app.
- Validate the accuracy, timing, repeatability, and reliability of firmware-controlled operations.
- Verify that software commands result in the expected physical device behavior.
- Test sensors, motors, heaters, actuators, and other firmware-controlled components.
- Reproduce issues and work closely with software, firmware, hardware, and product teams to identify root causes.
- Write clear bug reports with reproduction steps, logs, videos/images, and relevant device/software/firmware information.
- Verify bug fixes and help determine release readiness.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in QA/software testing with strong fundamentals in test-case design and regression testing.
- Experience testing Android applications.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to think beyond the happy path and identify unusual real-world scenarios.
- Comfortable testing and debugging physical products.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to clearly document issues.
- Interest in working across software, firmware, hardware, and IoT systems.
Good to Have
- Experience testing IoT, embedded, robotics, appliances, or connected consumer products.
- Familiarity with ADB, Logcat, Postman, REST APIs, MQTT, WebSockets, Bluetooth/BLE, or Wi-Fi debugging.
- Experience testing embedded firmware.
- Experience validating sensors, motors, heaters, or other electromechanical systems.
- Basic Python or scripting knowledge for test automation.
- Experience with Android/mobile test automation.
- Familiarity with OTA software/firmware updates.
Who Will Do Well in This Role
We’re looking for someone who is naturally curious about how a product can fail, not just whether the expected flow works.
You should enjoy asking questions like:
What happens if Wi-Fi disconnects in the middle of cooking? What if the user sends a command from the mobile app while something else is happening on the device? What if the device restarts midway through a recipe? Did the firmware actually perform an operation accurately, or did the software simply report that it did?
If you enjoy finding these kinds of problems before customers do, we’d love to talk.
