A primary objective of the Air Force Research Laboratory's Edge Processing Dominance Branch (AFRL/RFGP) of the Information Dominance Division within the Information and Spectrum Warfare Directorate is to lead the research, development, prototyping and experimentation of edge computing systems to include novel computing architectures and hardware, along with software frameworks and deployment of AI/ML algorithms for C5ISRT applications, especially onboard processing for information fusion.

Roles And Responsibilities Of This Position Include

  • Serve as project manager and science/engineering lead for the rapid prototype, demonstration, and experimentation of edge processing systems for a range of applications to include tactical unmanned aerial systems (tUAS), autonomous collaborative platforms (ACP), and space platforms
  • Propose and execute applied and advanced research initiatives to facilitate the advancement of computing technology to meet Air Force requirements and align with organizational goals, especially AFRL
  • Maintain and establish relationships with internal and external collaborators from Government and industry to advance computing technology development and deliver products. Work with the customer base to identify transition pathways and provide input to the development team to focus on technology development for current and future military needs
  • Incorporate systems engineering practice into efforts to derive customer requirements, identify technology options, structure efforts to meet requirements, minimize risk to transition technology
  • Monitor and manage requirements throughout the development life-cycle to align with end-user needs
  • Execute new and existing acquisitions for both internally and externally funded efforts
  • Serve as part of a team of scientists and engineers that designs, develops, and delivers government-owned edge computing and support environment
  • Required travel for mission partner outreach and engagement

Required Qualifications

  • Must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade
  • Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov
  • Currently possess, or have the ability to get and maintain, a TS/SCI clearance
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in any of the following science/engineering disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics. To be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional science or engineering curriculum
  • This is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position that requires Practitioner Level certification in Engineering & Technology Management (ETM). The selectee will have two years to meet APDP requirements.
  • The duty location for this position is AFRL/RI, Rome, NY. Position is eligible for telework and will require routine mission travel, regular classified engagements, and in-person meetings.
  • Ability to perform temporary duty (TDY) assignment travel
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing

  • Demonstrated ability to professionally lead technical and diverse teams, develop and maintain relationships, build consensus, and resolve conflicts/problems across a collaborative community to include other government agencies, industry, and academia.
