We design and manufacture suspension components for wheeled and tracked military vehicles and off-highway machines used in construction, forestry, mining and agriculture. POSITION SUMMARY

The Control Systems Engineer is an integral part of the Mobility Systems Development team whose objective is to develop and refine innovative electromechanical products aimed at improving vehicle performance. In this role you will use technical expertise and creative thinking to develop and validate control strategies and supporting technologies on customer projects and Horstman Group R&D initiatives. This position will be a focal point for control systems leadership across the Horstman Group, the ability to clearly communicate your ideas and direction is critical for success.

The ideal candidate will be a methodical, detail-oriented, and responsive self-starter who has previous industry experience related to control systems development. This position involves working closely with the internal multidisciplinary team and external partners, so the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues is essential. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Navigate legacy control logic and system architectures.

• Perform literature reviews to assess applicable control strategies from past and present.

• Develop control models using computer-aided engineering techniques.

• Develop plant models (hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical) to support control model validation.

• Support model/software/processor/hardware in the loop testing.

• Support development of the embedded systems that will execute control models.

• Create technical documentation and test plans.

• Participate in design reviews and provide guidance to identify problems and reduce risk.

• Conduct in-house testing and on-vehicle commissioning.

• Provide diagnostics and troubleshooting support to resolve customer issues.

• Assist project management team with timelines and resource allocation.

• Travel to customer sites as needed.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or related discipline.

• 5+ years of experience in control systems development.

• Proficiency with Matlab/Simulink/Simscape.

• Proficiency with model-based design (requirements management, SIL/PIL/HIL testing).

• Experience with commercial electronic control units (TTControl).

• Experience with revision control (Git/GitHub/GitLab).

• Experience with communication protocols (J1939 CAN).

• Familiarity with functional safety standards (ISO 26262).

• Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment (oscilloscopes, debuggers, data acquisition).

• Familiarity with C/C++ and assembly programming.

• Familiarity with microcontrollers, electronic circuits, sensors, motors, hydraulics.

• Familiarity with product development processes.

• Background in defense, aerospace, or other safety-critical environments is highly beneficial.

PAY RANGE - $100,000 TO $120,000

Core working hours are 7 am to 4 pm on Monday through Thursday, and 7 am to 1 pm on Friday. This is an on-site position, consider the commute before applying.
