Intern, Software Engineering

Location: Cleveland (Onsite – 4 days in office)

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Manager, Software Engineering

Travel: Less than 5%

Your Impact

As a Software Engineering Intern, you’ll work alongside CHAMP’s Product Engineering team on meaningful projects that contribute to our technology and business. You’ll be paired with a mentor, gain hands-on experience throughout the software development lifecycle, and apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to real-world challenges.

What You’ll Do

  • Work on a defined software engineering project with real business impact.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software alongside experienced engineers.
  • Write and test code using languages and technologies such as Java, JavaScript, React, and other tools within CHAMP’s technology stack.
  • Apply software engineering concepts including data structures, algorithms, APIs, object-oriented programming, and software design principles.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, debugging, and other stages of the software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with engineers, Product teams, fellow interns, and other stakeholders throughout your project.
  • Participate in team meetings and communicate project progress, challenges, and results.
  • Receive ongoing guidance, mentorship, and feedback from CHAMP team members.
  • Participate in professional development, networking, and learning opportunities throughout the summer.
  • Present your project and results to CHAMP employees and leadership during the end-of-summer Intern Showcase.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Available to complete a 10-week, approximately 40-hour-per-week internship in Cleveland from early June through early August 2027.
  • Academic or hands-on experience with at least one programming language.
  • Foundational understanding of software engineering concepts, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies, ask questions, and receive feedback.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Java, JavaScript, React, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with REST APIs, SQL, databases, or cloud technologies.
  • Previous technical experience through coursework, internships, hackathons, research, or personal projects.
  • Familiarity with Git or other version-control tools.
  • Interest in working in a fast-paced, collaborative software company.

Hourly Rate

The expected hourly rate for this position is $22.50 per hour. This is a good faith estimate, and final compensation may vary based on experience, and skills.
