Job Description

Reporting to the Head of IT Operations & Cloud, the Cloud & DevOps Specialist helps maintain, secure, automate, and improve Montrium’s Microsoft Azure environments. The role supports the established Connect platform by strengthening cloud operations, infrastructure delivery, monitoring, access controls, and operational reliability in close collaboration with Architecture, Development, Product, Quality, Customer Experience, and Security teams.

As a member of the IT Operations & Cloud team, your work will focus on the following areas:

Azure Administration

  • Administer Montrium’s Microsoft Azure subscriptions, management groups, resource groups, identities, compute, storage, networking, databases, and platform services.
  • Administer Azure networking components, including virtual networks, subnets, network security groups, private endpoints, DNS, load-balancing services, VPN connectivity, and firewalls.
  • Maintain Azure virtual machines and platform services, including configuration, patching, upgrades, scaling, backup protection, and lifecycle management.
  • Plan and perform technical implementations and the rollout of new Azure services, cloud capabilities, infrastructure standards, and deployment technologies.
  • Monitor Azure consumption, identify cost anomalies, and recommend rightsizing, scheduling, retention, and resource optimization improvements.

Infrastructure as Code and Automation

  • Provision and configure Azure infrastructure using reusable, modular, and parameterized Bicep templates.
  • Maintain Bicep modules, parameter files, naming conventions, tagging standards, and environment-specific configurations in Git repositories.
  • Automate recurring cloud administration and deployment activities using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bicep, and Azure DevOps.
  • Review existing manual processes and replace them with secure, documented, and maintainable automation.
  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities, including backups, restores, failover procedures, recovery testing, and infrastructure rebuilding through Bicep.

CI/CD and Release Management

  • Integrate Bicep deployments into Azure DevOps YAML pipelines to provide repeatable and controlled infrastructure delivery.
  • Implement validation, linting, what-if analysis, deployment approvals, and automated verification within infrastructure pipelines.
  • Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines for applications, configuration, and infrastructure across development, quality assurance, staging, and production environments.
  • Manage Azure DevOps repositories, branching strategies, pull requests, pipeline templates, artifacts, service connections, environments, approvals, and release controls.

Security and Governance

  • Configure and maintain Microsoft Entra ID integrations, managed identities, service principals, Azure role-based access control, and least-privilege access.
  • Apply and maintain Azure governance controls, including Azure Policy, resource locks, tagging, diagnostic settings, naming standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Manage secrets, certificates, and keys securely using Azure Key Vault and approved pipeline integrations.
  • Support platform identity and access needs for Montrium’s cloud environments, including role-based access configuration, environment access requests, service accounts, and access-related troubleshooting, while coordinating with corporate IT where broader IT processes or controls are involved.
  • Contribute to DevSecOps practices by incorporating security checks, protected credentials, controlled access, and compliance requirements into infrastructure and delivery pipelines.

Monitoring and Operations

  • Monitor the health, availability, performance, and capacity of Azure resources using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, alerts, and dashboards.
  • Troubleshoot deployment failures, infrastructure issues, access problems, network connectivity, resource performance, and service availability.
  • Support incident response, troubleshooting, post-incident analysis, and corrective actions affecting Azure services and deployment processes.
  • Support customer-impacting operational investigations by providing technical analysis, infrastructure insight, and resolution support to Customer Experience and internal product delivery teams.
  • Participate in a rotational on-call schedule, including after-hours support when required, for Montrium’s SaaS solutions.
  • Support related on-premises platform infrastructure, including SharePoint Server Subscription Edition environments, with a focus on monitoring, patching, backup, troubleshooting, and operational continuity.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, including configuration specifications, deployment procedures, operating procedures, architecture records, change controls, and recovery runbooks.

Operational Excellence

  • Participate in IT Operations & Cloud planning to achieve business objectives through reliable, secure, automated, and scalable cloud services.
  • Help define and maintain standards for Azure administration, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, source control, and CI/CD.
  • Improve service reliability, availability, and operational maturity through disciplined cloud operations and continuous improvement.
  • Proactively identify configuration drift, technical debt, non-conformances, security risks, and opportunities for automation or standardization.
  • Promote reusable patterns and consistent operating practices across Azure environments.
  • Keep current with Azure, DevOps, IaC, cybersecurity, and cloud governance trends.
  • Ensure that cloud operations and deployment activities comply with applicable company policies, regulatory requirements, security controls, and legal guidelines.
  • Support audits and provide technical evidence related to infrastructure configuration, deployment history, access control, monitoring, backup, and change management.

Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture

  • Collaborate with developers, architects, product owners, quality assurance, DevOps, and support teams to deliver reliable product capabilities.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, troubleshooting, and improvements to engineering practices.
  • Use modern productivity and AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Enterprise Copilot and Microsoft 365 AI capabilities, to improve coding, documentation, collaboration, and engineering efficiency while applying sound professional judgment.
  • Communicate technical risks, dependencies, trade-offs, and delivery progress clearly.
  • Share knowledge, support team learning, and work with autonomy, accountability, curiosity, and respect for sustainable delivery practices.

You will join a collaborative engineering team that values practical design, shared ownership, and sustainable delivery. If you enjoy improving established systems, learning new technologies, and making thoughtful engineering decisions, this role may be a strong fit.
