About the job
The short version
You'll spend most of your time building and automating on-premises VMware infrastructure with Terraform and Docker, and the rest keeping a production AWS footprint healthy. The platform you're supporting handles emergency escalations for major consumer apps — high-volume, customer-facing, and growing.
About the team
Our client has been in the security business for 150 years and is now packaging its monitoring capability as a service for large enterprise and consumer platforms. This engineering group owns the infrastructure behind that service and is actively modernizing it: automating what was manual, containerizing what was hand-deployed, and migrating databases forward. The team uses Cursor for AI-assisted development and expects engineers to lean into it.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and automate on-prem VMware infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code practices
- Containerize and deploy services with Docker, on-prem and in Amazon ECS
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Bitbucket
- Provide operational support for production AWS environments (incident response, performance, cost, hardening)
- Contribute to PostgreSQL migration and modernization work
- Administer and automate Linux systems at scale
- Support integrations with third-party APIs and enterprise partners
- Communicate clearly with engineering, product, and business stakeholders — this role has a lot of cross-team surface area
What you need
- 10+ years in DevOps, Infrastructure, or Platform Engineering
- Hands-on experience building and administering VMware / on-premises infrastructure — not just consuming it
- Deep Terraform and IaC expertise
- Docker in production; Amazon ECS experience
- Production AWS support experience
- CI/CD fluency, ideally with Bitbucket Pipelines
- PostgreSQL experience, including at least one migration or modernization project
- Strong Linux administration and scripting/automation
- Strong troubleshooting instincts and comfort with production on-call realities
- Clear, effective written and verbal communication
Nice to have
- GCP exposure or cloud-to-cloud migration experience
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Copilot, etc.)
- Background in high-volume, customer-facing production environments
- Experience building platforms that integrate with external APIs / service providers
Before you apply
This role is majority on-prem. Please apply only if you can say yes to all of the following:
- You can work hybrid on-site in Irving, TX (DFW area) without relocation assistance
- You have 10+ years in a DevOps, infrastructure, or platform engineering role
- You have personally administered vSphere / VMware infrastructure — not just consumed VMs someone else built
- You have written Terraform from scratch for infrastructure you owned, including at least one non-AWS provider
- You have run Docker in production
- You have hands-on experience with PostgreSQL in a migration, upgrade, or modernization project
If your background is cloud-only, this is not the right fit and we'd rather not waste your time.
Why this role
Most DevOps postings are cloud-only. This one is the reverse: real hardware, real hypervisors, and the mandate to modernize how they're run — with cloud experience as a complement, not the whole job. If you like on-prem engineering but want to work with modern tooling and an AI-forward team, this is a rare fit.
