Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

Role Definition:

Provides technical leadership for complex manufacturing engineering projects, with primary accountability for new program introduction and the end-to-end delivery of production capabilities. Leads multidisciplinary teams through project planning, process definition, sourcing, construction, installation, commissioning, validation, production ramp-up, and stabilization of manufacturing lines, while embedding operational excellence management systems to achieve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and capacity objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead major manufacturing engineering projects for new program introductions, capacity expansions, and production transformations from concept approval through launch, ramp-up, and stable operations.
  • Develop and control integrated project plans covering scope, schedule, budget, resources, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, validation, training, and production readiness.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, quality, supply chain, procurement, facilities, EHS, finance, human resources, suppliers, and leadership to deliver project milestones and business objectives.
  • Direct the planning, construction, installation, integration, commissioning, and start-up of manufacturing lines, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, safety requirements, quality standards, capacity targets, and launch timing.
  • Establish governance, milestone reviews, risk management, change control, action tracking, and executive reporting to maintain alignment, accelerate decisions, and resolve constraints.
  • Communicate program status across all levels of the organization, from front-line leaders through the executive team, providing clear visibility of progress, key decisions, dependencies, risks, opportunities, and required actions.
  • Implement operational excellence management systems in new programs, including standard work, visual management, performance indicators, problem-solving routines, continuous improvement practices, and ownership for sustained results.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced English.

Skills:

Products and Services:

  • Understands product, process, and production requirements throughout the new program lifecycle and aligns engineering deliverables with customer and business needs.
  • Guides cross-functional teams through process definition, production readiness, launch, ramp-up, and operational handoff.
  • Communicates the technical, operational, quality, cost, capacity, and service value of proposed manufacturing solutions.
  • Ensures alignment among engineering, operations, suppliers, customers, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Technical Excellence:

  • Leads the evaluation and implementation of engineering solutions for complex new programs, production line, capacity, automation, and manufacturing process challenges.
  • Applies engineering standards, structured problem solving, data analysis, risk assessment, validation methods, and lessons learned throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Mentors technical teams in design discipline, process capability, launch readiness, commissioning, and operational excellence practices.
  • Sets clear expectations for the quality, safety, completeness, and timeliness of technical work and project deliverables.

Influencing Through Expertise:

  • Communicates complex technical concepts, program risks, trade-offs, and recommendations clearly to technical teams and business leaders.
  • Tailors program status communication to audiences ranging from front-line leadership to the executive team, highlighting progress, risks, opportunities, business impact, decisions, and support required.
  • Uses manufacturing, automation, launch, and project management expertise to influence timely, evidence-based decisions.
  • Builds stakeholder commitment by linking engineering solutions to safety, quality, delivery, cost, capacity, and operational excellence outcomes.
  • Builds organizational capability through mentoring, knowledge sharing, and the standardization of lessons learned.

Project Management:

  • Defines project scope, business case, deliverables, work breakdown, milestones, governance, acceptance criteria, and success measures.
  • Builds and controls integrated plans for engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, validation, training, launch, and ramp-up.
  • Coordinates multidisciplinary teams and suppliers while tracking budget, schedule, resources, dependencies, decisions, changes, and executive escalations.
  • Establishes a consistent program reporting cadence and communicates status, forecasts, risks, opportunities, mitigation plans, and escalation needs to the appropriate organizational levels.
  • Identifies and mitigates technical, supplier, facility, capacity, quality, safety, installation, commissioning, and launch risks.

Team Management:

  • Establishes clear objectives, roles, decision rights, interfaces, and performance expectations for multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Aligns engineering, operations, quality, supply chain, procurement, facilities, EHS, finance, suppliers, and leadership on priorities and execution.
  • Facilitates project reviews, removes barriers, resolves cross-functional conflicts, and sustains accountability and momentum.
  • Develops team capability in project execution, launch discipline, operational readiness, and continuous improvement.

Requirements Analysis:

  • Leads the collection, prioritization, documentation, approval, and control of product, process, capacity, facility, quality, safety, and operational requirements.
  • Translates business and production needs into actionable engineering specifications, line concepts, acceptance criteria, and launch-readiness deliverables.
  • Validates interfaces, dependencies, constraints, assumptions, and stakeholder expectations before execution and at key project gates.
  • Identifies requirement gaps and maintains traceability through governance, verification, validation, and change control.

Technical Troubleshooting:

  • Leads diagnosis and resolution of equipment, automation, controls, integration, commissioning, and manufacturing process issues during installation, launch, and ramp-up.
  • Uses structured methods, diagnostics, data, documentation, and supplier resources to identify root causes and restore project or production performance.
  • Coordinates containment, corrective, and preventive actions across functions and escalates risks that threaten safety, quality, timing, cost, or capacity.
