STS is seeking a Mid-Level Computer Engineer to support a client with Anti-Tamper microelectronic assessments, technology development, testing, and Anti-Tamper implementation across multiple programs. This position will support NSWC Crane’s Trusted Microelectronics Division and its Navy and Air Force customers.
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop software and test methodologies for evaluating the security, functionality, and resilience of microelectronic devices. The position will involve hands-on laboratory testing, embedded software development, data analysis, and collaboration with electrical and computer engineers.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, integrate, and maintain software for embedded microelectronics and processors, including ARM, RISC-V, and other architectures, to support microelectronics assessment activities.
- Develop CPU and embedded software in a team environment using established software development and revision-control practices.
- Design, develop, and maintain test and debug software used to evaluate microelectronic devices and systems.
- Plan and execute software and hardware testing activities and troubleshoot issues encountered during laboratory assessments.
- Analyze and interpret test data using statistical and computational methods to identify trends, anomalies, and potential areas of concern.
- Develop scripts and automated tools to improve testing efficiency, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Work closely with Electrical Engineers to configure, operate, and troubleshoot microelectronic devices and laboratory test setups.
- Support the development and implementation of new testing methodologies for microelectronics and Anti-Tamper assessments.
- Participate in electrical and electronic technology assessment efforts, including evaluation of emerging microelectronics technologies.
- Contribute to technical design reviews, test plans, technical reports, and engineering documentation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to define test requirements, investigate technical issues, and develop solutions.
- Apply software engineering best practices, including source control, code reviews, documentation, debugging, and configuration management.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge-sharing activities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering/technical field.
- 3–7 years of relevant engineering experience in embedded software, microelectronics, hardware/software integration, testing, or a related field.
- Demonstrated programming experience in C/C++ and Python; experience with Perl and/or MATLAB is beneficial.
- Experience developing software for embedded processors, microcontrollers, FPGAs, or other microelectronic devices.
- Working knowledge of statistical methods and data analysis techniques.
- Experience collecting, processing, and analyzing experimental or engineering test data.
- Hands-on experience with basic laboratory equipment, such as oscilloscopes, amplifiers, filters, signal generators, and related instrumentation.
- Working knowledge of microelectronics, including microcontrollers, FPGAs, processors, or similar devices.
- Experience with software revision-control systems such as Git.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues in a laboratory or test environment.
- Ability to participate in and support technical design reviews and communicate technical information effectively.
- Working knowledge of parallel programming concepts, including race conditions, deadlocks/livelocks, shared memory, and memory ordering.
- Experience with pthreads, MPI, or other parallel programming frameworks is preferred.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government security clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret security clearance.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience with LabVIEW.
- Experience with VHDL and/or Verilog.
- Experience with FPGA development and hardware/software co-design.
- Experience with embedded Linux or other real-time/embedded operating systems.
- Familiarity with ARM and/or RISC-V architectures.
- Experience developing automated hardware/software test environments.
- Experience with microelectronic security, Anti-Tamper, trusted microelectronics, hardware assurance, or related technologies.
- Experience with vulnerability assessment, hardware reverse engineering, fault analysis, side-channel testing, or other microelectronics security assessment techniques.
- Familiarity with DoD engineering processes, technical documentation, and configuration management practices.
- Experience working with Navy, Air Force, DoD, or other government customers.
