About the job

About Wilco

Wilco is building the fastest path from Lead to Cash for retail healthcare. We get the patient in clinic by deploying AI Voice, WhatsApp, SMS and Email Agents that convert leads into appointments, reactivate lost patients, confirm bookings, and get unclosed quotes signed. 24/7.

Our systems connect critical communications and patient management systems, and they must behave reliably across asynchronous, real-world interactions.

We are moving from early production systems to a shared multi-tenant platform for healthcare groups across Spain and Portugal. Our infrastructure must now support the next 10–100x of customers and workloads without slowing down the engineers building the product.

The role

We are hiring a Platform Engineer to own the foundation that lets Wilco’s engineers ship quickly, test realistically and operate safely as we scale.

This is not a ticket-driven cloud administration role. You will treat infrastructure as a product for other engineers: clear paved roads, self-service environments, strong defaults, useful abstractions and fast feedback. You will also work closely enough with the product to know when reliability matters, where a simpler system is sufficient and which technical debt is worth paying now.

Wilco currently uses GCP, GKE, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, GitHub Actions and multiple Python services. You will help turn that foundation into a coherent platform.

What you will do

  • Design and evolve Wilco’s GCP architecture for 10–100x growth in traffic, customers and services.
  • Own and improve GKE, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, networking, identity, secrets and deployment workflows.
  • Build reliable CI/CD paths with safe rollouts, automated checks, fast rollback and useful deployment visibility.
  • Create self-service, isolated and short-lived environments for development, previews, integration tests and AI-agent work.
  • Make realistic end-to-end testing possible for difficult external systems such as voice calls, WhatsApp, webhooks, calendars and CRMs.
  • Build test infrastructure for provider failures, timeouts, retries, idempotency, rate limits, asynchronous events and partial success.
  • Establish observability, service-level indicators, alerts and incident practices that help engineers find causes rather than only symptoms.
  • Improve security, tenant isolation, disaster recovery, cost controls and operational readiness as Wilco grows.
  • Partner with product and application engineers to create reusable platform primitives and remove repeated infrastructure work.
  • Use AI tools in infrastructure work: exploration, automation, code review, test generation, documentation and incident analysis—with strong human verification.
  • Make explicit tradeoffs among speed, reliability, security, cost and maintainability based on product impact.

What we are looking for

  • Production experience with GCP. Experience operating GKE or another managed Kubernetes platform is strongly preferred.
  • Strong system-design fundamentals across distributed systems, networking, identity, data, failure modes and scalability.
  • Hands-on Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD experience, ideally Terraform and GitHub Actions.
  • The ability to write production-quality automation or platform tooling in Python, Go or TypeScript.
  • Experience with containers, observability and incident investigation.
  • A developer-product mindset. You care about how quickly and safely another engineer can get from a change to verified production behaviour.
  • Pragmatic technical judgment. You can explain tradeoffs in product and business terms and avoid both premature complexity and reckless shortcuts.
  • A constructive AI-first working style. You actively use coding agents and automation, then verify their output with tests, review and operational evidence.
  • Clear communication and comfort working closely with product engineers.
  • Professional English.

Strong advantages

  • Experience building ephemeral preview or test environments with automatic provisioning and cleanup.
  • Experience testing real-time voice, telephony, messaging, webhook-heavy or asynchronous systems.
  • Experience with multi-tenant SaaS, healthcare data, security or compliance-sensitive environments.
  • Experience designing internal developer platforms, golden paths or self-service infrastructure.
  • Spanish or Portuguese.

What success looks like

In your first 90 days, you will have mapped the current platform and its failure modes, improved one critical deployment or reliability path, and delivered one developer-facing capability that reduces manual work.

Within 12 months, engineers will be able to create isolated environments and run meaningful integration tests without bespoke cloud work. Wilco will have measurable reliability, safer releases and an infrastructure plan that can support the next order of magnitude of growth.

How we work

Wilco is office-first in Lisbon because platform decisions are product decisions and the feedback loop with engineers needs to be short. There is flexibility to work from home on some days.

We expect infrastructure engineers to understand what the product is trying to achieve, not only whether the cluster is healthy. Reliability, velocity and simplicity are all product outcomes.

What we offer

  • €40.000–€50.000 gross annual base salary.
  • Full-time Portuguese employment contract.
  • Flexible compensation with meal allowance.
  • Office in Lisbon with hybrid flexibility.
  • Ownership of the platform at an inflection point in Wilco’s growth.
