About the job

Senior Test Software Engineer — LabVIEW/TestStand (Contract)

Location: Austin, TX — onsite

Type: Contract — up to $80/hr

Duration: 12-month contract, target start early September

Openings: 2

Must be a U.S. Citizen — this work is ITAR-controlled

About the Role

Our client is hiring two Senior Test Software Engineers to build custom automated test systems for aerospace, defense, and government programs. You’ll sit inside a cross-functional engineering team — systems architects, electrical engineers, and the customer’s own engineers — developing instrument drivers, test sequences, and test applications in LabVIEW and TestStand across a wide range of test equipment.

This is a customer-facing engineering role, not a heads-down development seat. You’ll help define and document requirements, hold design and readiness reviews, verify that the tests you build actually cover those requirements, hand finished systems off to customer engineering teams with the documentation to sustain them, and travel domestically and internationally as programs require. If you’d rather own a test system end to end — from requirements through deployment and support — than write code against someone else’s spec, this is that role.

Recent, hands-on LabVIEW and TestStand experience is what gets screened hardest here. Several otherwise strong candidates have come up short for being rusty on both. If your last real LabVIEW or TestStand project was a few years back, this one will be a difficult sell.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop instrument drivers, test sequences, and test applications in LabVIEW and TestStand for a broad mix of first-party and third-party test equipment
  • Build automated test software on PXI chassis, interfacing with analog and digital I/O cards, DMMs, oscilloscopes, switching and signal routing systems, data acquisition devices, power supplies, RF analyzers, and RF power sensors
  • Work with systems architects and the electrical engineering team to guide design decisions that make systems testable
  • Define and implement system test plans, manage milestones, and hold reviews that confirm readiness for deployment
  • Verify developed tests for compliance with and coverage of requirements
  • Hand off and directly support test applications to customer engineering teams, including writing the documentation they’ll rely on
  • Work directly with customers, internal staff, alliance partners, and suppliers through design, implementation, and sustainment
  • Travel domestically and internationally as project objectives require

What You Need

  • U.S. Citizenship — required for ITAR-controlled work and DoD clearance eligibility
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another engineering discipline from an accredited institution
  • 5+ years developing test software in LabVIEW and TestStand
  • Hands-on experience building automated test software on PXI chassis with instrumentation such as analog/digital I/O, DMMs, oscilloscopes, switching and signal routing, DAQ devices, power supplies, RF analyzers, and RF power sensors
  • Working knowledge of hardware interfaces — GPIB, USB, Ethernet, and serial communication protocols
  • Comfort in high-level languages alongside LabVIEW and TestStand — C, C++, C#, or Python
  • Ability to diagnose technical problems and propose workable solutions independently, and to pick up unfamiliar systems and products quickly
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse, multi-cultural engineering team

Nice to Have

  • LabVIEW certification — CLAD, CLD, or CLA
  • Solid understanding of electrical engineering, electronics, and computer architectures
  • Experience reading and developing system electrical schematics
  • Cross-platform development experience (Windows/Linux)
  • Production experience in Python, C#, or another high-level language
  • Experience providing direct technical support to customers

Two seats are open on this one, both onsite in Austin, on a 12-month contract starting in early September. We’re moving quickly — apply now to be considered.
