About the job
About the Role
MDinteractive is seeking an experienced Data Processing Manager to lead our Data Processing team — the group responsible for collecting, validating, and processing quality-measure data (CQM/eCQM) that healthcare practices and ACOs submit for MIPS, APP, and related CMS quality reporting programs.
This is a player-coach role. You will personally troubleshoot the hardest, most complex EHR-sourced files while managing and developing a team of data analysts who do the same work across dozens of EHR platforms, each with its own formats and processing requirements. You will manage team capacity, quality standards, and performance across a demanding, deadline-driven quarterly and annual reporting cycle.
But we are equally interested in how you think about the work itself. Our processing environment has continued to evolve over the years. Much of its complexity is genuinely driven by EHR variability — but some of it is accumulated workaround. We're looking for a leader who can tell the difference: someone who is not hesitant to use modern AI tooling and automation to reduce manual toil, who questions workflows rather than simply inheriting them, and who partners closely with Engineering to decide what should be automated, simplified, or redesigned. You should be as comfortable prototyping a small tool to kill a repetitive task as you are diagnosing a malformed QRDA file by hand, and either resolve it directly or coach a team member through the resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Data Processing & Technical Troubleshooting
Personally process and troubleshoot the highest-complexity and escalated EHR-sourced quality data files (QRDA I, QRDA III, Excel, and other structured formats).
Diagnose and resolve EHR-specific data issues — encoding errors, missing NPI/TIN data, password-protected files, nested/double-zipped archives, mislabeled or undetected measures, and other platform-specific quirks.
Serve as the team's top-level technical escalation point for files or issues analysts cannot resolve independently.
Automation, AI Tooling & Workflow Improvement
Use AI-assisted tooling to inspect, triage, and process files at scale, and to accelerate diagnosis of unfamiliar or malformed exports.
Prototype lightweight solutions — scripts, prompts, small internal tools — to eliminate repetitive manual steps, treating manual handling as something to be engineered away rather than accepted as permanent.
Critically evaluate existing workflows and reference documentation: distinguish genuine EHR-driven complexity from legacy workaround, and propose simplifications and standardization.
Maintain internal reference documentation (EHR processing guides, known-issue logs, workflow instructions) as a living, improving resource — updated as EHR vendors change their platforms and as workflows are streamlined.
Team Leadership & Management
Directly manage a team of data analysts (currently six), including workload distribution, quality review, and performance management.
Onboard and train new analysts on EHR-specific processing workflows, CMS quality measure requirements, and internal tools — including the AI-assisted tooling the team uses.
Plan for capacity and staffing needs across the annual reporting cycle, including scaling support during peak submission periods.
Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement, given the constantly evolving nature of EHR platforms and CMS requirements.
CMS Quality Program & Compliance Oversight
Maintain deep, current expertise in CMS QPP rules, submission pathways (traditional MIPS, MVPs, APP), performance thresholds, and scoring methodology.
Ensure all data processing and submissions meet CMS program deadlines, accuracy standards, and audit-readiness requirements.
Monitor regulatory and program changes (annual measure updates, EHR certification changes, CMS policy shifts) and translate their impact into updated team processes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Serve as a second-line technical resource for the Customer Service and Project Management teams on escalated client questions about data files, reporting errors, or submission status.
Partner with Engineering to identify high-value pipeline and workflow automation initiatives, providing subject-matter expertise on EHR file variability and processing exceptions to define where human judgment is genuinely required versus where a process can be made reliably autonomous.
Collaborate with Engineering to prioritize platform improvements based on recurring data processing pain points.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree, preferably in health informatics, public health, data science, or a related field
5+ years in healthcare quality reporting, health IT, or healthcare data analytics, including hands-on MIPS or QPP work.
Strong hands-on technical proficiency with QRDA I/III and other structured EHR/EMR data exports
Working knowledge of QPP scoring: submission pathways (traditional MIPS, MVPs, APP), performance thresholds, and category reweighting.
Experience directing other people's work in a healthcare data or health IT environment, whether as a manager, team lead, or the person analysts escalate to.
Comfort using AI-assisted tools in day-to-day work, with a bias toward automating repetitive tasks; demonstrated hands-on use of scripting and/or AI tooling to inspect, transform, or triage data files at scale.
A track record of improving processes, not just operating them — someone who looks at an inherited workflow and asks whether it should exist in its current form.
Preferred
Prior experience with a CMS Qualified Registry or QCDR.
Familiarity with specific EHR platforms and their export quirks (Epic, athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Cerner, Allscripts, NextGen).
Experience building or prototyping internal tools, automations, or AI-assisted workflows (scripting, prompt-based tooling, LLM-assisted file triage, or similar).
SQL, XML/XPath, or light scripting to inspect files at scale.
Ability to manage competing deadlines across a team, especially during high-volume annual submission periods.
Experience coordinating part-time or contract contributors.
What We Offer
Fully remote work environment.
Opportunity to lead a high-expertise team at the technical core of MDinteractive's registry operations.
Direct involvement in shaping data automation and AI strategy alongside Engineering leadership.
Latitude to modernize a long-standing processing environment rather than simply maintain it.
