About the job
About TeklTalk
TeklTalk is building AI-powered chatbots that help websites answer visitors' questions using their own content.
Instead of manually building and maintaining a knowledge base, TeklTalk can understand a website's content and turn it into an AI assistant that provides useful, source-backed answers.
We're a small, product-focused team, and you'll have the opportunity to work directly on the backend systems powering the product.
What you'll work on
We're looking for a Backend Developer who enjoys building APIs, working with data, and solving real product problems.
You'll work on things like:
- Building and maintaining backend APIs using Python and FastAPI
- Designing APIs and services that power the TeklTalk platform
- Working with website crawling, content processing, search and AI/RAG pipelines
- Building reliable asynchronous/background processing systems
- Working with databases, caching and queues
- Improving API performance, reliability and scalability
- Integrating third-party APIs and AI/LLM services
- Writing clean, maintainable and well-tested code
- Monitoring, debugging and improving production systems
- Experimenting with GCP and AWS for deployment, infrastructure and scaling
- Working closely with the product team to turn ideas into production features
What we're looking for
Required:
- Strong Python fundamentals
- Experience building REST APIs
- Experience with FastAPI or a similar Python framework
- Good understanding of databases and backend architecture
- Comfortable working with Git
- Ability to debug problems independently
- Strong understanding of HTTP, APIs and web applications
- Willingness to learn and experiment with cloud infrastructure
Nice to have:
- Experience with GCP or AWS
- Docker
- PostgreSQL
- Redis
- Celery/background jobs
- Web scraping/crawling
- RAG / LLM applications
- Vector databases or semantic search
- CI/CD
- Experience deploying production applications
You don't need to be an expert in every technology listed above. We're more interested in strong fundamentals, curiosity and the ability to figure things out.
What makes this role interesting
At TeklTalk, you'll be working on real AI infrastructure rather than just wrapping an API around an LLM.
You'll encounter interesting backend problems involving:
- Processing large websites
- Extracting and transforming web content
- Making search and retrieval reliable
- Building AI systems that know when they don't have enough information
- Handling asynchronous workloads
- Keeping AI applications fast and cost-efficient
- Designing infrastructure that can scale with customer usage
You'll also have room to experiment with GCP and AWS deployments and help us figure out the infrastructure that makes the most sense as the product grows.
How we work
We're a small team, so your work will have a direct impact on the product.
You won't be limited to implementing predefined tickets. We value people who:
- Ask "why?" before writing code
- Take ownership of problems
- Prefer simple solutions over unnecessary complexity
- Are comfortable experimenting
- Learn quickly
- Care about the quality of what they ship
Why join TeklTalk?
- Work directly on an AI product used by real websites
- Work closely with the founding team
- Get hands-on experience with Python, FastAPI, cloud infrastructure and AI/LLM systems
- Solve interesting backend and distributed-system problems
- Opportunity to experiment with AWS and GCP
- High ownership and autonomy
- Small team with fast decision-making
- Learn across backend, infrastructure, AI and product
Location
We're open to candidates who can work remotely and communicate effectively with the team.
Interested?
If you're excited about building backend infrastructure for AI products and want to work in a small startup where you can have significant ownership, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply through Wellfound and tell us about something interesting you've built.
Bonus points if you can share a GitHub repository, side project, technical article, or anything else that shows how you think and build.
