The Role
As an Editor at Novvel, you are the primary architect of the adaptation process. You will take existing manuscripts - ranging from classic literature to modern stories - and translate them into high-impact graphic novels using our proprietary AI-powered platform. You'll be the creative compass guiding manuscripts through transformation into graphic novels, ensuring every adaptation maintains story integrity while maximizing visual impact.

What You'll Do

• Story Adaptation: Review manuscripts and guide their transformation into compelling graphic novel formats
• Visual Narrative Direction: Make critical decisions about pacing, panel flow, and visual storytelling beats
• AI Collaboration: Use our platform to prompt and iterate on AI-generated storyboards, panels, and layouts
• Text Refinement: Rewrite and optimize dialogue to ensure it is punchy and fits the visual medium.
• Quality Control: Ensure story consistency, character development, and narrative flow across all adaptations
• Creative Problem-Solving: Work with our illustration team to resolve narrative and visual challenges
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with the tech team to improve the AI tool and coordinate with illustrators to finalize panels.

Who We're Looking For

Essential Experience:

• 3+ years in comic book editing, graphic novel publishing, or visual storytelling
• Strong background in story structure, pacing, narrative development, and script writing
• Proven experience writing dialogue and adapting text for visual media
• Technical Literacy: You must be comfortable working with (and learning) new AI-powered creative tools.
• Experience adapting content between different media formats
• Excellent written communication and editing skills

Bonus Points:

• Background in film/animation storyboarding
• Knowledge of different graphic novel styles (manga, noir, full-color, etc.)
• Understanding of target audience adaptation (YA, adult, genre-specific)
• Personal Qualities:
• Creative problem-solver who thrives in ambiguous situations
• Comfortable with technology and learning new AI-powered tools
• Collaborative spirit - you'll work closely with illustrators and our tech team
• Passionate about making reading more accessible and engaging
