About the job
Monefy is a business and technology services company based in Brașov, Romania. We run
back-office operations for healthcare practices in the US, and we build the software those
practices use for their day-to-day work. We're the operator as well as the vendor, so we
end up using most of what we build.
We look for people who ask a lot of questions, finish what they take on, and want to keep
getting better at the job.
About the product
You'll be working on our healthcare platform: an EHR (electronic health record) and medical
billing system used by clinics in the US. It covers patient records, scheduling, intake, a
patient portal, insurance claims and payment posting.
The data is medical and the numbers end up on real invoices, so we're careful about
correctness and about who gets to see what.
The role
You'll own features from start to finish: backend, frontend, database migrations and tests.
Usually you'll pick up something a clinic has asked for and stay with it until it's live,
and we'll expect you to be able to explain the choices you made along the way.
You'll report to the CTO and work with him closely, which means plenty of mentoring and
plenty of scrutiny on your work.
What you'll do
- Build features across the stack: Django/DRF APIs, React + TypeScript interfaces, schema changes and tests.
- Write a short design plan before you start coding, and talk it through with us.
- Check your own work before anyone else sees it: run it, try to break it, fix what you find.
- Walk a reviewer through your code, line by line if they ask.
- Find your way around a large codebase you didn't write, and leave it a bit tidier than you found it.
- Learn the domain: how clinics schedule, what an insurance claim is, how a payment gets posted.
What we're looking for
- At least a year of professional Python web development. If you don't have that on paper but you have your own complex projects you can talk us through in detail, apply anyway.
- Python with Django (Flask or FastAPI counts) and REST API design.
- React with TypeScript, and the SPA basics: state, routing, async, talking to an API.
- SQL and an ORM. You can read a schema, write a query with a few joins in it, and work out what a migration will do to data that's already there.
- Comfortable with Git and with a Unix-based OS.
- You write tests, and you also open the application and check that it behaves the way it should.
- You can read code you didn't write, say what it does and spot where it's likely to break.
- You can explain every line of code you submit, including anything you generated.
- Clear written and spoken English. You'll be writing short design documents most weeks and discussing them daily.
- Based in Romania and available Monday–Friday, 12:00–21:00 EEST.
Nice to have
- Django REST Framework, Celery, OpenAPI-generated clients.
- Testing tooling: pytest, vitest/jest, Playwright.
- AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, ElastiCache).
- You've worked on a team with real code review, where your pull requests came back with changes requested.
- Any exposure to healthcare, insurance or billing systems.
- Patience for an unglamorous domain. Healthcare admin is full of small rules and edge cases, and it rewards people who find that sort of thing interesting.
Who you are
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Logical thinker with strong analytical skills
- Displays a high level of initiative and resourcefulness
- Seeks out opportunities for creative expression and exploration
- Prefers an agile work environment over traditional structures
What we offer
- €2,000–3,000 gross / month, depending on what you can demonstrate.
- Real ownership: whole features across frontend, backend, migrations and tests.
- A learning budget for courses, books and conferences.
- Private medical insurance, which kicks in once you're past your first three months.
- Team-building activities, and a company that means it about work-life balance.
- An early-stage product, so what you build reaches clinics quick
