About the job

Lead Hardware Engineer — Robotics

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for an exceptional Lead Hardware Engineer to own the design and build of smartARM's next-generation robotic hardware. You'll take systems from first principles through prototypes and manufacturable CAD - choosing mechanisms, actuators, transmissions, sensors and supporting electronics along the way.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Own mechanical and electromechanical development of robotic hands and arms

• Design mechanisms, kinematics, transmissions, linkages and compact actuator systems

• Select motors, actuators, gearboxes, sensors, motor drivers and supporting hardware

• Translate product vision into production-ready CAD

• Prototype fast: build, test, break, debug and repeat

• Lead DFM/DFA, tolerance decisions and early manufacturing handoff

• Integrate mechanical hardware with electronics, embedded systems and onboard compute

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Strong mechanical/mechatronics foundation with real robotics experience

• Excellent CAD, mechanism design, GD&T and rapid prototyping skills

• Hands-on experience with motors, actuators, gearboxes, cable/tendon systems and robotic

arms

• Comfortable machining, 3D printing, assembling and debugging real hardware

• Able to work independently and make strong engineering decisions with limited guidance

• Comfortable in Linux and command-line environments for onboard systems

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience designing robotic hands, prosthetics, exoskeletons or compact manipulators

• Obsessed with thoughtful industrial design and real-world usability

• Strong opinions, backed by engineering judgment and evidence

• Something to prove - high agency, resourceful and energized by difficult problems

• Low ego, clear communicator, relentless about getting to a working result

If you obsess over mechanisms, actuation, compact packaging and making real hardware work, wewant to talk.
