Heron builds AI that gets clinics paid what insurers owe them.

Practices lose money in a way they usually cannot see. Hospitals staff entire payer contracting departments for this. An independent practice has one person. That gap is the business and this is where Heron steps in.

The role

You are the first engineering hire. Since we are early stage, innovation tokens to be spent still remain. You will build critical Heron platform components and infrastructure, develop AI-powered features and stress test the build. Expect independence, autonomy and a grand adventure.

About You

• Strong TypeScript, mostly server-side. You have shipped and maintained production backend services that real users depend on, this is a backend role first.
• Enough frontend to ship without waiting on anyone. React or comparable. You are building the interface our customers and our reviewers work in, but it is the smaller half of the job.
• Real database experience. Schema design, query performance, and the instinct to catch a wrong data model before it bites you. Multi-tenant isolation matters here.
• Comfortable owning infrastructure. Cloud deployment, CI/CD, monitoring, incident response. AWS and Amazon Bedrock experience is a plus.
• You worked with messy real-world data. Healthcare data is genuinely complex, structurally messy, and hence you must be comfortable with ambiguity.
• You have shipped AI in production, not just prototyped it. You know the difference between a demo that impresses and a system that holds: grounded outputs, real evals, and knowing when the right answer is for the model to refuse rather than guess. Here a hallucination is a compliance event, not a bad UX moment.
• You use Claude Code, Codex, or similar every day and get real leverage from them.
• You want to own systems and make calls, not work tickets.

Part-time to start, fully remote, US-based. Path to full-time when the funding round closes. You must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship, now or in the future. We are not able to sponsor. The opportunity comes with meaningful equity in the company.
