Founding Technical Lead - Full Stack Engineer

The Role
Marquee is building the professional identity platform for human opportunity. We're currently in beta and preparing for public launch.

We're looking for a Founding Technical Lead who has built 0→1 and scaled — someone who understands what it takes to turn an early product into a production-grade platform built for growth.

You'll take technical ownership of Marquee as we move from founder-built beta to launch and scale. You'll inherit a working product and partner directly with the founder to evolve the architecture, build a strong and scalable data foundation, ship new product and AI capabilities, and ultimately build the engineering function.

This is a deeply hands-on role for someone who can move comfortably between product, code, architecture, AI and data. Strong database and data infrastructure experience is critical. Production AI/LLM experience is required.

What You'll Own
-Technical architecture and engineering roadmap
-Evolution of the existing beta into a scalable, production-grade platform
-Database architecture, data modeling, data infrastructure and performance
-Backend systems, APIs and infrastructure
-Search, discovery, matching and AI-powered product capabilities
-Security, authentication, permissions and data integrity
-Performance, reliability, testing and observability
-Technical decisions around what to keep, rebuild, buy or integrate
-Engineering standards, CI/CD and how we ship
-Hiring and leading additional engineers as the company grows

Our Stack
-Frontend: Next.js (App Router), React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS
-Backend / Infra: Vercel, serverless + edge functions, TypeScript
-Data & Auth: Supabase, Postgres, Auth, RLS
-AI: Anthropic Claude API
The stack is a starting point. You'll have meaningful ownership over how the architecture evolves as we scale and optimize.

What You Bring
-6+ years of software engineering experience, ideally in startups or high-growth products
-Experience building products 0→1 and taking them through meaningful scale
-Strong full-stack engineering and systems architecture experience
-Deep understanding of relational databases, data modeling, PostgreSQL and the data infrastructure required to support a growing product
-Experience designing and evolving systems for meaningful scale
-Strong TypeScript / React / modern web development experience
-Production experience building and shipping AI/LLM-powered products
-Experience with search, discovery, matching or other data-intensive products is a strong plus
-Strong understanding of APIs, authentication, security and cloud infrastructure
-Experience establishing CI/CD, testing, monitoring and production engineering practices
-Excellent product judgment and comfort making pragmatic technical decisions
-Comfortable being deeply hands-on now and building a team over time
-High-EQ leader who can scale an engineering organization

Bonus Points
-Next.js App Router + Vercel at production scale
-Supabase / Postgres / RLS depth
-Consumer, marketplace, network or creator product experience
-Search or recommendation systems experience
-You've established the engineering playbook for a small team

A note on fit: This is not a role for someone looking to learn AI on the job. You should have already shipped AI/LLM functionality into a real production product and be comfortable making architectural decisions about how AI, application logic and data work together.
