Founding Technical Lead

The Role
Marquee is building the professional identity platform for human opportunity. We're currently in beta and preparing for public launch.

We're looking for a Founding Technical Lead to take technical ownership of Marquee as we move from founder-built beta to launch and scale. You'll inherit a working product and partner directly with the founder to evolve the architecture, strengthen the data foundation, ship new product capabilities, and build the engineering function.

This is a deeply hands-on role for someone who can move comfortably between product, code, architecture and data — and who wants to help shape the technical foundation of an early-stage company.

What You'll Own

• Technical architecture and engineering roadmap
• Evolution of the existing beta into a scalable, production-grade platform
• Database architecture, data modeling and performance
• Backend systems, APIs and infrastructure
• Search, discovery and AI-powered product capabilities
• Security, authentication, permissions and data integrity
• Performance, reliability, testing and observability
• Technical decisions around what to keep, rebuild, buy or integrate
• Engineering standards, CI/CD and how we ship
• Hiring and leading additional engineers as the company grows

Our Stack

• Frontend: Next.js (App Router), React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS
• Backend / Infra: Vercel, serverless + edge functions, TypeScript
• Data & Auth: Supabase, Postgres, Auth, RLS
• AI: Anthropic Claude API
• Email / Comms: Resend The stack is a starting point, not a constraint. You'll have meaningful ownership over how the architecture evolves as we scale.

What You Bring

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, ideally in startups or high-growth products
• Strong full-stack engineering and systems architecture experience
• Deep understanding of relational databases, data modeling and PostgreSQL
• Experience designing systems for meaningful scale
• Strong TypeScript / React / modern web development experience
• Production experience with AI/LLM-powered products
• Experience with search, discovery, matching or data-intensive products is a plus
• Strong understanding of APIs, authentication, security and cloud infrastructure
• Experience establishing CI/CD, testing, monitoring and production engineering practices
• Excellent product judgment and comfort making pragmatic technical decisions
• Comfortable being hands-on now and building a team over time
• High EQ leader who can scale the team

Bonus Points

• Next.js App Router + Vercel at production scale
• Supabase / Postgres / RLS depth
• You've shipped a real LLM feature to users — not a demo
• Consumer, marketplace, network or creator product experience
• Search or recommendation systems experience
• You've taken an early product through a significant scale-up
• You've established the engineering playbook for a small team

This role will start on a contract basis as we prepare for launch.
