Senior Embedded Linux Software Engineer

📍 Westford, MA - Hybrid (3 days onsite/week)

About the role

Our client, a global leader in fire and life safety solutions, is looking for a Senior Embedded Linux Software Engineer to join their R&D team in Westford, MA, working on the next generation of embedded applications for their Fire Detection business. You'll be designing, developing, and optimizing software for Fire Alarm System communication gateways — products deployed in buildings people walk through every day.

What you will do

• Own the full software development lifecycle: analysis, design, coding, debugging, testing, and deployment of embedded applications
• Drive feature prioritization and performance optimization of our software solutions
• Collaborate cross-functionally with teams across departments and global locations
• Bring innovative thinking and continuous feedback to meet evolving customer needs
• Support teammates and adjacent functional groups
• Continuously develop your technical expertise

What you bring

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science
• 7+ years of embedded software development experience
• Strong hands-on expertise with embedded Yocto Linux-based systems
• Experience with the Azure IoT platform
• Proficiency in multithreaded, multi-process, real-time embedded application development
• Strong command of C and C++
• Familiarity with formal software development methodologies
• Ability to plan and estimate software project timelines
• Experience with test/debug tooling: I2C debuggers, gdb, oscilloscope, logic analyzer
• Experience with Bitbake

• Network programming knowledge
• Experience with security CVE remediation
• Exposure to rigorous approval standards (e.g., UL/ULc)
• Version control tools (Git)
• File storage/artifact management systems (e.g., Artifactory)
• Issue tracking systems (JIRA, Integrity)
• Scripting languages (Bash, Make, Python)
• Atlassian tools (Confluence)
