About the job
Job Summary - Bioinformatics Intern
This is an un-paid internship that will involve mentorship and educational components so interns can gain industry experience and receive academic credit. We’re exploring an emerging area at the intersection of biology, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence focused on understanding the internal activity and organization of artificial neural systems and other neural substrates. We’ll be seeking a Biology Developer Intern to join me and another technical cofounder to help design experiments, analyze neural activity, and develop new ways of studying these systems.
Our work focuses on model biology: treating artificial and biological neural systems as objects of scientific study. Rather than focusing exclusively on what a system produces, we’re interested in understanding what is happening internally, how neural systems respond to controlled conditions, and whether measurable principles can be identified across different substrates. This work may span computational neuroscience, experimental biology, electrophysiology, and computational modeling.
Depending on the project, there may be opportunities to access a remote wet lab for experimentation and electrophysiology, as well as opportunities to work with digital neural substrates and computational models. Interns will receive mentorship while gaining experience developing repeatable experiments crossing neuroscience, biology, and AI.
Responsibilities
Assist with developing experiments for research questions involving:
- Internal activity and organization of artificial neural systems
- Neural dynamics, adaptation, and responses to controlled conditions
- Electrophysiological measurements and other forms of neural activity
