Job Summary

In this newly created role, the Development Manager will play a critical role in helping BACR embrace and unlock an organization-wide culture of philanthropy. Leveraging several years of relevant experience, this team member will be a highly organized, proactive, and detail-driven professional who serves as the operational engine of BACR’s growing fundraising function.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Development Manager will empower BACR’s CEO and the five Executive Directors of our core program areas to raise funds effectively, keeping the organization’s philanthropic activity organized, on schedule, and moving forward. Where the Executive Directors have - and will continue to - bear the primary responsibility for raising funds for their respective program areas, this position will help BACR deepen its focus on philanthropy on an org-wide scale. The Development Manager will drive coordination and accountability across our budding development efforts: managing calendars and deadlines, preparing leaders for donor and funder meetings, ensuring timely follow-up, drafting reports and applications, and developing and maintaining our donor database.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordination & Accountability: Maintain a stewardship calendar of grant application and reporting deadlines, donor touchpoints, campaigns, and events, and ensure the CEO and Executive Directors stay ahead of deadlines
  • Track fundraising commitments and next steps across leadership, providing timely reminders and progress check-ins to keep all development activity on schedule
  • Schedule and coordinate donor, funder, and prospect meetings on behalf of the CEO and Executive Directors
  • Meeting Preparation & Follow-Up: Prepare agendas, briefing materials, and funder research summaries in advance of meetings; capture notes and action items; and draft and send follow-up correspondence to ensure commitments are honored
  • Grants & Reporting Support: Support outreach and draft grant proposals, letters of inquiry, applications, and funder reports in collaboration with the CEO, Executive Directors, and finance staff
  • Support outreach to funder prospects by drafting emails and other communications for the CEO, Executive Directors, and other staff
  • Where appropriate, maintain direct communications with prospects to secure fundraising meetings and steward funder relationships
  • Develop and maintain a library of boilerplate language, program descriptions, budgets, and standard attachments to streamline proposal development
  • Collaborate with the Contracts team on tracking foundation, government, and corporate grants at all stages, from prospect research through application, award, reporting, and renewal
  • Development narrative: Help to shape the org-wide narrative on fundraising (“the system behind the safety net”), work with CEO and Executive Directors to help shape specific investment opportunities, and lead efforts to find relevant data and citations (internally and externally) to support the above.
  • Donor Database & Records: Develop and maintain the Salesforce donor database, including accurate and timely entry of gifts, contacts, and actions; generate acknowledgment letters; and produce pipeline and revenue reports for leadership
  • Development Initiatives: Play a key coordinating role for potential future initiatives including individual donor, major gifts, grassroots support, and/or planned giving efforts
  • Culture of Philanthropy: Serve as an internal resource and champion, helping program staff across the organization understand and embrace their role in fundraising
  • Other Duties: As assigned by the CEO
