GENERAL SUMMARY

The Manager, Strategic Planning & Business Development is responsible for overseeing strategic planning and business development initiatives across multiple service lines and organizational functions. This role leads an assigned team, guiding the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic growth priorities. The position partners with executive leadership, physicians, and department leads to drive organizational alignment, innovation, and margin improvement, and ensures the successful execution of complex projects and programs that advance the hospital’s mission and long-term strategic goals. Reports to departmental leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads and manages assigned team in the execution of strategic planning and business development projects.
  • Oversees the service line strategic planning process, collaborating with VPs, Directors, and physician leadership to identify and prioritize growth opportunities.
  • Develops and reviews business plans, financial models, and pro formas for new initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and financial targets.
  • Conducts and synthesizes market analyses, competitor intelligence, and national trends to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Presents strategic recommendations and business plans to executive leadership through compelling written proposals and presentations.
  • Ensures project objectives and outcomes are aligned with the hospital’s mission and strategic direction.
  • Serves as executive sponsor or lead for large-scale, cross-functional project and program implementation teams.
  • Facilitates hospital committees and strategy work groups, providing leadership, staffing, and guidance.
  • Develops and monitors dashboards and key performance indicators to evaluate project and program success.
  • Analyzes financial and operational data to assess strategy effectiveness and identify new opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Maintains independence in performance while demonstrating strong leadership, cooperation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Leads, manages, coaches, and trains a team or department, provides guidance, support, and mentors to ensure optimal performance and productivity.
  • Oversees the recruitment, hiring, team/department orientation, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions including up to termination processes for a team or department.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, Public Health, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in health care strategic planning, business development, or administration, including supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects in a healthcare setting.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced clinical and business acumen, including understanding of ICD, DRG, CPT coding, and healthcare regulatory standards.
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, and strategic planning skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and data visualization tools.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team management, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Creative, adaptable, and innovative thinking style.
