About the job

About Us

Flagsmith is on a mission to empower teams to ship faster and continuously improve their products. We're a profitable, bootstrapped company building an open source alternative to larger venture-backed competitors. Profitability and sustainability are how we stay in control of our destiny.

Our growth comes from helping larger teams take control of their release processes. We work across all industries but have the biggest impact in high-risk environments like financial services, healthcare, telecommunications, and high-tech manufacturing. Our net retention rates speak for themselves.

Our team spans multiple continents and is 100% remote, with deep roots in engineering and a strong focus on product quality, simplicity, and community. We are filled with team members who have been searching to have impact, and larger scope as opposed to being a cog at a large organisation!

About the Role

We're growing our customer engineering function and hiring a Customer Success Engineer based on the US East Coast to cover our North American customer base. Think of the role as a mix of a Customer Success Manager, Sales Engineer, and Technical Account Manager. Above all, you're an engineer at heart. You have hands-on experience from building and supporting modern cloud-based software applications.

Our customers are senior platform engineers, SREs, and product engineering teams running Flagsmith in environments where releases carry real weight - financial services, healthcare, telco, high-tech manufacturing. They want a counterpart who can hold a serious technical conversation, debug alongside them, and design a feature flag strategy that works at their scale.

What You'll Do

Four core responsibilities. The mix shifts week to week based on your judgement of what your portfolio needs:

  • Own technical qualification and validation for high-value prospects. Architecture conversations, POCs, security and compliance questions, demos, integration design - the technical win on the deals that matter most.
  • Be the trusted strategic and technical advisor to enterprise customers. Drive onboarding and proactive engagement that delivers verified adoption outcomes.
  • Technical support for your portfolio. As the customer's engineer, you resolve most issues directly. You pull in product-internal depth when it's truly warranted.
  • Drive renewals and expansion in partnership with our account executives. You bring the technical credibility and customer relationship; the AE runs the commercial motion.

What You'll Bring

  • Code fluency. Comfortable across modern languages and frameworks. Enough to pick up an unfamiliar SDK quickly and trust your instincts when something looks off.
  • Cloud and DevOps fluency. Working knowledge of AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus Docker and CI/CD.
  • Customer-facing SaaS experience. You have worked with technical products across diverse clients and portfolio sizes.

What We're Looking For

  • Visible ownership. You set priorities, drive your portfolio, and people always know where they stand with you. Stakeholders hear from you first.
  • Engineer in the room. Integration, deployment, architecture, performance - you handle it, and know when to pull in a Flagsmith engineer.
  • Empathy and collaboration. You build real relationships internally and externally.
  • Read customers well. You pick up on nuances, what are they optimizing for and what are their pain points.
  • Clear communication. You distill complex concepts into something concise and interesting with user value baked in.

Nice to Haves

  • Strong demo and presentation skills. Live technical demos to engineers and executives are part of the job.
  • Hands-on experience with feature flags, experimentation platforms, or progressive delivery
  • Open source experience, or experience with products with a meaningful self-hosted/on-prem footprint
  • Past exposure to highly regulated industries (finance, healthcare, telco)
