About the job

About SHR Consulting Group

SHR Consulting Group, LLC is a small business delivering enterprise IT, cybersecurity, and program management services to the Department of Defense and federal civilian agencies. We support mission-critical infrastructure at the Pentagon and across the National Capital Region, and we invest in our people through competitive compensation, professional certification support, and long-term career growth on stable, multi-year programs.

Position Summary

SHR Consulting Group is seeking Storage Services Systems Administrators to operate and maintain an approximately 25-petabyte enterprise storage area network supporting Command and Control, Continuity of Operations, and Continuity of Business data requirements for the DISA J-9 Hosting and Compute environment. This is a hands-on role across a complex, multi-fabric, multi-environment SAN spanning on-premises, alternate site, and hybrid cloud, and it covers the full lifecycle — administration, virtualization, migration, backup and recovery, and automated failover for clustered tenant applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver storage administration, storage virtualization, storage architecture, data storage transport, configuration, storage management software integration, and policy-based storage management using industry best practices

  • Operate and maintain a complex multi-environment, multi-fabric storage area network solution across on-premises, alternate site, and hybrid cloud environments

  • Own the full O&M lifecycle of the managed SAN environment, including software upgrades, migrations to new storage hardware platforms and cloud hosting environments, data storage transport, decommissioning, and storage rationalization

  • Provide migration support for relocation of on-premises storage to the future-state environment, supporting coherent migration of applications, data, software, and databases at a rate of no less than 10% of the total transition requirement per month

  • Perform installation, configuration, and tuning of backup servers, clients, application agents, storage targets, and management software in the enterprise backup environment

  • Monitor backup job reports and troubleshoot failed jobs daily; maintain backup service delivery consistent with existing customer service levels and the service catalog

  • Perform remediation of data spillage incidents

  • Use predictive growth analysis to indicate the need for additional capacity at least six months prior to shortfall

  • Perform knowledge transfer and customer training for customers managing their own backups and restores

  • Design, implement, and configure automated failover for clustering solutions on J-9 HAC and tenant-provided compute platforms, enabling access to data within two hours of a declared COOP activity

  • Conduct System Operational Verification Tests after each implementation and subsequent change, and conduct cluster health checks on production critical clusters prior to quarterly customer failover testing

  • Ensure system software, firmware, applications, and STIGs remain within one version of the latest manufacturer or Government release

  • Maintain the consolidated listing of all customer equipment and points of contact connected to the enterprise storage and backup platforms

  • Effectively utilize vendor warranty and maintenance support contracts for data storage and data storage transport

  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and produce required monthly reporting on storage utilization, capacity, installed software, and hardware failures

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hands-on enterprise storage administration experience in a multi-fabric fiber channel SAN environment at scale

  • Experience with storage virtualization, block and file storage, and policy-based storage management

  • Experience with enterprise backup and recovery platforms, including disk-to-disk-to-cloud solutions with off-site replication

  • Experience with data replication, failover testing, clustering solutions, and backup and restore capability validation

  • Experience performing storage and backup platform migrations, upgrades, and decommissioning

  • Ability to perform capacity planning and predictive growth analysis for storage and backup systems

  • Experience applying STIGs and maintaining firmware and software currency on storage infrastructure

  • Experience in a DoD or comparable large, complex enterprise IT environment preferred

Education

Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Telecommunications, or Management Information Systems; or five (5) recent years of documented experience relevant to this position.

Certification Requirements

DoD 8570.01-M / DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification required prior to start (IAM Level I for designated hardware/software installation positions). Computing environment certification in storage- or server-related technologies required, aligned to the assigned position. Designated installation technician positions additionally require BICSI Installer I. Certifications must be uploaded to CMIS within five days of start date.

Security Clearance

Active Top Secret clearance required for the majority of positions on this team; a limited number of positions may be filled at the Secret level. U.S. citizenship required.

Work Environment

On-site at the Pentagon Reservation, Raven Rock Mountain Complex (RRMC), and other designated alternate sites within the National Capital Region. After-hours on-call support is required; recalled personnel must be able to report to the requested work site within two (2) hours of notification unless the incident can be addressed remotely.

Location: Pentagon Reservation and Raven Rock Mountain Complex (RRMC), with additional NCR alternate sites

Schedule: Full-time, 12 hours x 5 days per week (Monday–Friday) coverage rotation, with after-hours on-call support

Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience and clearance level

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • 401(k) with company contribution

  • Paid time off and eleven federal holidays

  • Certification reimbursement and training support (DoD 8140 baseline and computing environment certifications)

  • Life and disability insurance

The above salary range represents a general guideline; SHR considers a number of factors when determining the base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
