About the job

About the role
As a Senior C++ Developer at Orom, your central challenge is making the core technology shippable: turning research ideas, prototype systems, and experimental algorithms into a fast, reliable, maintainable runtime and SDK that runs on edge hardware and integrates cleanly into partner systems.

You will build the high-performance foundations the rest of the product depends on. This includes productionizing components from 3D computer vision, geometric reasoning, numerical optimization, perception, mapping, and robotics pipelines. You will work closely with ML researchers, robotics engineers, and product-facing teams to ensure that algorithms are not only technically strong, but also efficient, robust, observable, and usable in real deployments.

This role is for someone who cares deeply about performance, clean architecture, correctness, and practical usability. You should be comfortable working at the boundary between research and production: understanding complex algorithms, improving their implementation, making them run reliably under real-world constraints, and shaping them into software that partners can actually deploy.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain high-performance C++ systems that form the runtime and SDK layer of Orom’s core technology.
  • Turn research prototypes and experimental algorithms into reliable, production-quality software that can run efficiently on edge hardware.
  • Implement and optimize components for 3D computer vision, including geometry processing, camera models, calibration, pose estimation, tracking, mapping, reconstruction, and spatial reasoning.
  • Work on numerical optimization systems used in perception and robotics pipelines.
  • Improve runtime performance, memory usage, latency, determinism, and reliability across CPU- and hardware-constrained environments.
  • Collaborate with ML researchers, robotics engineers, and MLOps to integrate learned models, geometric algorithms, and optimization-based systems into a unified production pipeline.
  • Build clean APIs, SDK components, and integration layers that allow Orom’s technology to be embedded smoothly into partner systems.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions that improve modularity, testability, maintainability, and long-term extensibility of the codebase.
  • Develop debugging, profiling, benchmarking, and validation tools for complex perception, optimization, and 3D vision systems.
  • Ensure correctness through thoughtful testing, numerical validation, simulation, regression tests, and careful handling of edge cases.
  • Work with production constraints such as real-time performance, limited compute, sensor noise, synchronization issues, hardware variability, and messy real-world data.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, implementation plans, and clear communication of engineering tradeoffs across research, product, and partner-facing teams.

What we are looking for

  • Strong professional experience building production-quality C++ systems, ideally in performance-critical, real-time, robotics, computer vision, or embedded systems.
  • Deep understanding of modern C++ and software engineering practices, including clean architecture, memory management, concurrency, testing, profiling, debugging, and API design.
  • Ability to translate research prototypes and experimental code into robust, maintainable, and efficient production software.
  • Experience working with edge hardware, resource-constrained systems, or latency-sensitive runtimes.
  • Comfortable collaborating across ML, robotics, and product-facing teams to integrate learned models, geometric algorithms, and optimization-based systems into deployable products.
  • Strong practical judgment around performance, correctness, reliability, maintainability, and engineering tradeoffs.
  • Familiarity with debugging and validating complex systems that combine sensors, geometry, optimization, real-time constraints, and messy real-world data.
  • Experience designing SDKs, runtime components, libraries, or integration interfaces that are clean, stable, and easy for partners or downstream teams to use.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to document architectural decisions, implementation plans, limitations, and technical tradeoffs. Bonus points for a strong grasp of numerical optimization and applied mathematics, and for experience implementing or productionizing 3D computer vision, robotics, spatial computing, or geometric perception algorithms.
