Technical Manager – Prepreg and Composite Materials

Are you a composite materials expert with hands-on experience in prepreg systems, resin chemistry, and composite manufacturing?

We are looking for a Technical Manager – Prepreg & Composite Materials to take technical ownership of our prepreg systems and drive their development, industrialization, manufacturing performance, and quality.

In this role, you will act as the technical authority for prepreg technology, working across R&D, Materials Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to ensure that our prepreg systems are technically robust, manufacturable, scalable, and commercially competitive.

Candidates without direct professional experience in composite materials and prepreg systems will not be considered.

What You Will Do

• Technical Ownership of Prepreg Systems
• Own prepreg baseline specifications, internal TRDS (Technical Raw Data Sheets), and customer-facing TDS extracts.
• Define and maintain technical requirements for prepreg systems and raw materials.
• Establish and maintain material and process specifications.
• Prepreg R&D and Industrialization
• Design and optimize new prepreg formulations.
• Lead the transition from laboratory development to full-scale manufacturing.
• Develop and maintain the prepreg technology roadmap.
• Evaluate resin chemistry, fiber/resin compatibility, flow behavior, tack, drape, and curing performance.
• Composite Manufacturing & Process Optimization
• Oversee first-article production batches and industrial trials.
• Establish and validate cure cycles and processing windows.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing deviations and optimize process parameters.
• Support Autoclave, Out-of-Autoclave (OOA), and Press Molding processes.
• Materials, Quality & Supply Chain
• Define technical qualification criteria for raw materials.
• Lead qualification of alternative raw materials and suppliers.
• Provide technical authority for Non-Conformances (NC), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and corrective actions.
• Use SPC and technical testing data to monitor process and product performance.
• Technical Customer & Commercial Support
• Act as the technical authority in customer and commercial discussions.
• Advise on laminate quality, including void content, tack, drape, resin flow, and cure behavior.
• Lead technical Go/No-Go assessments for new commercial opportunities.
• Required Experience
• 5+ years of professional experience in composite materials, with significant hands-on experience in prepreg systems.
• Direct experience with epoxy, phenolic, and/or thermoplastic prepreg systems.
• Strong understanding of thermoset chemistry, resin flow, and cure kinetics.
• Hands-on experience with Autoclave, OOA, and/or Press Molding processes.
• Experience with composite mechanical and physical testing.
• Strong knowledge of SPC, technical data analysis, and process optimization.
• Experience with Non-Conformance management and Root Cause Analysis.

Education

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
• Advanced certification in Composite Manufacturing or Quality Management (e.g., AS9100) is an advantage.
