About Amaratek

Amaratek fills the niche as contract inventor and innovator across a broad spectrum of industries and applications by applying cross-disciplinary expertise in chemistry, life sciences, and engineering. Amaratek invents real-world solutions to the largest defense, health, and development problems. Recognizing that many of the skills and insights honed for military applications can also be applied to civil government projects where needs for reliable health systems, water, energy, and transportation mirror defense needs, Amaratek has provided technical services to foreign governments, NGOs, and social entrepreneurs. We remain focused on Defense and Homeland Security technologies and their extended applications in the commercial markets. MUST BE A US CITIZEN. Green card holders (permanent residents) will be automatically rejected due to the nature of our work.

Job Overview

This position is well suited for candidates who have completed a master’s degree with relevant research experience or are recent Ph.D. graduates / graduating Ph.D. students in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a closely related discipline.

We are particularly interested in candidates who combine strong graduate-level chemistry training with hands-on laboratory research experience. A candidate transitioning directly from a master's program or completing a Ph.D. is encouraged to apply. Practical research ability, scientific curiosity, careful experimental technique, and a strong safety mindset are valued over years of industry experience.

Duties

Design and execute experiments employing principles of experimental design and formulation chemistry to optimize product performance and stability.
Support formulation-development and materials research under established laboratory procedures and engineering controls.
Characterize chemical, thermal, mechanical, and stability properties of candidate materials.
Conduct material qualification, aging/stability studies, and failure investigations.
Design experiments, analyze results, and communicate findings to multidisciplinary R&D teams.
Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks, technical reports, and experimental documentation.
Contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory methods, material-selection approaches, and risk-management practices.
Required Qualifications

MUST BE A US CITIZEN. Green card holders (permanent residents) will be automatically rejected.
M.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field, with relevant research experience; or
Recent Ph.D. graduate or Ph.D. candidate nearing completion in a relevant discipline.
Academic or laboratory research experience involving chemical synthesis, formulation, materials characterization, or energetic/high-energy-density materials.
Strong foundation in chemistry and thermodynamics, with the ability to interpret experimental data and troubleshoot technical problems.
Demonstrated ability to independently plan and execute laboratory experiments.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to laboratory safety.
Preferred Qualifications

Graduate research involving energetic materials, propellants, pyrotechnics, reactive materials, or related fields.
Experience with thermal analysis, spectroscopy, microscopy, chromatography, or other materials-characterization techniques.
Experience working with hazardous chemicals under formal laboratory safety procedures.
Experience in defense, aerospace, chemical manufacturing, or another highly regulated technical environment.
Familiarity with technical reporting, experimental documentation, and quality-controlled R&D environments.
Ability to obtain and maintain a required government security clearance.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally for field tests, evaluations, demonstrations, and training.
