Enterprise Software Architect

FLSA: Exempt - Professional

EEOC Job Class: EEO-1 Category 2

Department: Engineering

Reports To: CTO

Position Purpose

An exciting opportunity to join a high-growth organization at the intersection of healthcare, workforce operations, and

technology. The Enterprise Software Architect will define and lead the target-state architecture for the Viventium + Apploi

Human Capital Management platform, with responsibility for platform architecture across the end-to-end workforce

lifecycle, including Hiring, Scheduling, HR, Benefits, Time & Attendance, and Payroll.

This role will play a critical part in shaping how software from Viventium + Apploi comes together into a unified, scalable,

secure, and modern platform. The Enterprise Software Architect will establish architectural direction, integration

patterns, engineering standards, and modernization priorities that support both near-term delivery and long-term scale.

The ideal candidate combines strong enterprise architecture judgment with practical software engineering credibility.

They are equally comfortable defining target-state architecture, improving developer experience, driving platform

engineering and DevOps maturity, rationalizing technical debt, and influencing senior engineering, product, and business

leaders.

Key Objectives

  • Define and advance the target-state architecture for the combined Viventium + Apploi platform
  • Establish scalable architecture standards, governance practices, and decision frameworks
  • Enable deeper product integration and more cohesive cross-platform workflows
  • Improve platform reliability, interoperability, developer experience, and delivery velocity
  • Identify, prioritize, and guide modernization efforts that reduce technical debt and platform fragmentation

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Platform Architecture & Strategy:

  • Own the architectural vision and target-state design for the Viventium + Apploi HCM platform across Hiring, Scheduling, HR, Benefits, Time & Attendance, and Payroll.
  • Define how products and capabilities from Viventium and Apploi should integrate and evolve into a unified platform, balancing speed, customer value, maintainability, security, and long-term extensibility.
  • Establish architectural principles, reference patterns, decision frameworks, and ownership boundaries that guide Product and Engineering teams.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Security, Data, and IT leaders to ensure architecture choices align with business priorities, platform strategy, and operational needs.

Platform Engineering, Cloud & DevOps:

  • Drive maturity in platform engineering capabilities that improve delivery speed, reliability, consistency, and engineering leverage.
  • Partner with infrastructure, DevOps/SRE, and engineering leaders to improve cloud architecture, observability, resiliency, release practices, and operational readiness.
  • Help evolve development and deployment standards to support a modern, secure, scalable SaaS environment.
  • Guide architectural decisions related to cloud scalability, resilience, fault isolation, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and high-availability platform operations.
  • Define guardrails and architectural standards for mission-critical workflows, particularly those adjacent to payroll, workforce operations, and employee data.

APIs, Interoperability & Data Architecture:

  • Define enterprise-grade API, eventing, and integration patterns that enable interoperability across applications, services, and external partners.
  • Establish canonical integration approaches, system-of-record boundaries, data ownership, synchronization patterns, and data flow principles across the combined platform.
  • Improve consistency, discoverability, governance, and reusability of internal and external platform interfaces.
  • Support architecture for third-party integrations, partner ecosystems, cross-product workflows, and API-first platform strategy.

Developer Experience & Engineering Enablement:

  • Collaborate with engineering leaders to improve team productivity through standards, tooling, workflows, and shared platform capabilities that reduce friction and increase consistency.
  • Advocate for strong engineering ergonomics in CI/CD, local development, testing patterns, environment management, documentation, and shared services.
  • Work with engineering leaders to reduce architectural drag and enable teams to build faster within well-defined guardrails.

Architecture Governance, Security & Compliance:

  • Establish scalable architecture governance practices that improve decision quality without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Lead or support architecture reviews for major initiatives, platform changes, integration work, and modernization programs.
  • Create lightweight but effective processes for technical standards, design review, exception management, and architectural accountability.
  • Ensure architecture decisions appropriately consider security, privacy, compliance, reliability, operational supportability, secure-development expectations, and required security management frameworks.

Technical Debt & Modernization:

  • Identify and prioritize architectural debt, platform fragmentation, aging components, and structural bottlenecks that inhibit speed, quality, and scale.
  • Create practical modernization roadmaps that balance business delivery with platform health.
  • Help teams make smart build, buy, retire, and refactor decisions across systems and shared services.
  • Drive platform simplification and rationalization where legacy approaches limit future integration and scalability.

The essential functions listed above are representative of the primary duties required. Employees must be able to

perform these functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities. The Company reserves the

right to modify the role as needed. Employment is at-will and may be terminated at any time with or without cause or

notice, in accordance with applicable law.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, video, and written channels
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with distributed, cross-functional teams
  • Travel as needed for business planning, team collaboration, client meetings, or industry events (estimated 5-15%)
  • Reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with applicable law.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred; advanced degree a plus

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, software architecture, or enterprise architecture roles, with significant experience in SaaS platforms
  • Proven track record architecting complex, multi-product software platforms with high availability, security, and scalability requirements
  • Strong hands-on architecture experience with enterprise Microsoft/.NET technology stacks, including .NET Core, .NET Framework, WCF, gRPC, Entity Framework, SQL Server, Azure Web Apps, Azure Service Bus, MongoDB, and modern single-page applications using React and Angular
  • Experience architecting and modernizing Azure-hosted SaaS environments, including deployment models, observability, scalability, resiliency, disaster recovery, and operational readiness
  • Experience designing integration architecture across legacy and modern systems, including REST APIs, gRPC, WCF, messaging/eventing, service boundaries, contract versioning, backward compatibility, and migration from tightly coupled integrations to scalable platform patterns
  • Strong understanding of identity, authentication, authorization, role-based access control, secure API design, tenant isolation, data protection, and privacy requirements for enterprise SaaS platforms
  • Ability to define system-of-record boundaries, canonical data models, data ownership, synchronization patterns, and cross-platform data governance across product domains
  • Deep, hands-on experience architecting and operating AWS-native SaaS platforms, including serverless and containerized compute, Cognito-based identity, and infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, AWS CDK, and SAM
  • Proven track record decomposing monoliths into services and leading incremental microservices migrations using domain-driven bounded contexts, safe migration patterns, and deliberate strategies for splitting shared databases while avoiding distributed monoliths
  • Expertise designing polyglot data and event-driven messaging architectures spanning relational, NoSQL, search, streaming, messaging, and caching technologies
  • Strong background building Python and Node.js/TypeScript backend services, with modern React and React Native web and mobile clients; experience designing scalable GraphQL and REST APIs using schema federation, gateway patterns, contract versioning, and clean service boundaries
  • Deep experience with distributed systems, API-first architecture, cloud-native patterns, platform engineering, DevOps, CI/CD, observability, and reliability engineering concepts
  • Demonstrated success influencing engineering organizations through technical leadership rather than direct authority alone
