About Marathon
Marathon helps ambitious consumer brands grow more intelligently.
We work with digital-first, multi-channel brands to connect strategy, execution, and data across the customer journey. Our team sits close to the business: helping brands understand where growth is coming from, where it is constrained, and what to do next.
We are building a modern marketing organization that combines exceptional operators with technology, data, and AI. We move quickly, stay close to the numbers, and care deeply about creating profitable, durable growth for our clients.
The Role
We’re looking for a Growth Lead to own growth strategy and execution for a portfolio of Marathon clients.
This is not a traditional account management role.
You will act as a senior growth operator for the brands you work with — someone who understands their business, owns the growth plan, identifies the highest-leverage opportunities, and helps make sure they get executed.
You should be equally comfortable discussing a brand’s annual growth plan with a founder or CMO and getting into the details of a Meta campaign, landing page, retention flow, or performance report.
The best candidates have spent meaningful time operating inside high-growth consumer brands or working very closely with them. You understand the pace, complexity, and tradeoffs involved in growing a modern ecommerce business.
You know paid media. You understand conversion. You understand retention. Most importantly, you know how these pieces fit together to drive profitable growth.
What You’ll Own
Client Growth
You will be the primary growth lead for a portfolio of Marathon brands.
You’ll develop a deep understanding of each client's:
Business model and economics
Customer and product mix
Growth goals
Contribution margins and profitability targets
Marketing calendar
Promotional strategy
Product launches
Inventory constraints
Acquisition channels
Retention opportunities
You’ll translate those inputs into a clear growth strategy and operating plan.
Paid Media
You should have strong hands-on experience running and evaluating paid media programs, particularly across Meta and Google.
You will:
Develop channel and campaign strategy
Evaluate account structure and performance
Identify opportunities to scale spend profitably
Work with creative teams to improve advertising performance
Understand incrementality, marginal performance, and diminishing returns
Balance efficiency targets with growth objectives
Help brands determine where the next dollar of marketing spend should go
You do not need to spend every hour trafficking ads, but you should be capable of getting into an account yourself and understanding exactly what is happening.
Conversion Rate Optimization
You’ll identify opportunities across the customer journey to improve conversion and monetization.
This may include:
Landing pages
Product detail pages
Offers and merchandising
Checkout flows
Bundles
Pricing
Promotions
Site experience
Testing roadmaps
You should understand how to form hypotheses, prioritize tests, interpret results, and turn learnings into action.
Retention & Lifecycle
You’ll help brands improve the economics of their customer base through stronger retention.
You should understand:
Email and SMS
Lifecycle marketing
Segmentation
Repeat purchase behavior
Customer cohorts
Subscription
Loyalty
LTV
Retention offers and merchandising
You don't need to personally build every Klaviyo flow, but you should know what a great retention program looks like and be able to identify where one is underperforming.
Growth Planning
Great consumer brands operate around a fast-moving marketing calendar.
You’ll work with clients to plan around:
Product launches
Seasonal moments
Promotions
Black Friday / Cyber Monday
Creative launches
Inventory
New channels
Retail expansion
Budget changes
You’ll help ensure that strategy, creative, media, CRO, and retention are aligned rather than operating in silos.
How You'll Work With Clients
You’ll build trusted relationships with founders, executives, and marketing leaders.
Clients should view you as an extension of their leadership team — someone they can call when they are deciding:
Should we increase spend?
Why did growth slow down?
Where should we invest next?
Is our CAC actually getting worse?
What should we test?
How should we approach this product launch?
Are we leaving money on the table somewhere in the funnel?
Your job is to bring clarity to those questions and turn that clarity into action.
That requires excellent communication. You should be able to take complicated data and turn it into a simple, confident recommendation.
Technology & Data
Marathon is building a technology-forward approach to marketing, and we want Growth Leads who are excited about that.
You should be highly comfortable with data and curious about emerging technology.
You may use:
AI tools
Analytics platforms
Attribution and incrementality tools
Ecommerce data
SQL or BI tools
Marketing APIs
Automation
Marathon's internal technology
You do not need to be an engineer.
But you should be the type of person who sees a repetitive process and immediately wonders how technology could make it faster or better.
We want people who actively experiment with AI rather than waiting for someone else to tell them how to use it.
What We're Looking For
You likely have 5–10+ years of experience in ecommerce, growth marketing, performance marketing, or a related field.
The strongest candidates will have many of the following:
Experience leading growth for digital-first consumer brands
Deep understanding of ecommerce economics
Strong hands-on paid media experience
Experience with Meta and Google Ads
Strong understanding of CRO and experimentation
Strong understanding of email, SMS, and retention
Experience working across multiple marketing channels
Experience building and managing marketing calendars
Strong quantitative instincts
Ability to diagnose performance issues using data
Experience communicating with founders, CEOs, CMOs, or senior marketing leaders
Excellent project management and organizational skills
Strong written and verbal communication
Comfort operating independently
High attention to detail
Bias toward action
Agency experience can be valuable, but it isn't required. We care much more about whether you understand how great brands actually grow.
You Might Be a Great Fit If
You are an operator, not just a strategist.
You like getting into the details.
You can zoom out to understand the entire business and then zoom all the way into a campaign, creative, landing page, or customer cohort.
You are commercially minded. Revenue is important, but you understand that profitable revenue is what matters.
You are naturally curious. When performance changes, your instinct is to figure out why.
You communicate clearly and have strong opinions, loosely held.
You are comfortable making decisions with imperfect information.
You move quickly.
You enjoy working with ambitious founders and marketing teams.
You are excited by the intersection of marketing, data, creativity, and technology.
And you want to help build a better model for how brands grow.
What Success Looks Like
A great Growth Lead at Marathon:
Becomes a trusted growth partner to their clients
Deeply understands the businesses they manage
Consistently identifies meaningful growth opportunities
Improves client profitability and marketing efficiency
Helps clients scale acquisition intelligently
Builds clear, prioritized growth plans
Turns data into actionable recommendations
Keeps teams focused on the highest-leverage work
Proactively identifies problems before clients do

Uses technology to make themselves and the broader Marathon team dramatically more effective
Ultimately, success is simple:
The brands you work with grow faster, more profitably, and more intelligently because you are involved.
