About the role
You will own our cloud backend, our device data pipeline, and the application software running on a growing fleet of devices in the field—from design through deployment and on-call. Today that pipeline moves images and sensor data off embedded Linux devices in real bathrooms, through cloud processing, into the datasets our ML team trains on and the alerts our customers act on. Every part of that chain will be yours.

This is a high-autonomy role on a small team. If you want a clear backlog handed to you, this isn't it. If you want to be the person who decides how the system works, it is.

Reports to: Software (ML and firmware) Lead.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and operate scalable cloud infrastructure and backend services
• Build and maintain the data pipelines and APIs that move device imagery and telemetry from the field into analysis and customer-facing insights
• Own reliability, monitoring, alerting, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code
• Develop and maintain the application software running on our field-deployed embedded Linux devices, and the fleet-management tooling around it (OTA updates, provisioning, remote diagnostics)
• Partner with the ML team on dataset generation, labeling infrastructure, and model deployment
• Contribute to design controls, validation, and regulatory documentation supporting our clinical work and FDA pathway

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of professional experience building and operating production cloud systems (AWS preferred; GCP or Azure fine)
• 5+ years writing production Python
• Strong DevOps fundamentals: CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, observability, alerting
• Solid grounding in networking and security practices
• Production experience with PostgreSQL or a comparable OLTP database
• A track record of owning projects end to end without close supervision, and of picking up unfamiliar technology quickly when a project demands it
• Clear written communication—most of our coordination happens asynchronously
• Genuine interest in health technology, and comfort with the pace and ambiguity of an early-stage company

Nice to have
Any of these will make your application stand out; none are required.

• Application code for embedded Linux devices, in Python or otherwise
• IoT fleet management: OTA updates, device provisioning, remote debugging at scale
• Regulated environments such as medical devices, IEC 62304, FDA design controls, HIPAA, or 21 CFR Part 11
• Data warehousing, OLAP, and modeling (Snowflake, BigQuery, dbt)
• Image or video data pipelines supporting a computer vision team
• EMR/EHR integrations (HL7, FHIR)
• Systems programming in C/C++ or Rust

About the "5+ years"
This role requires someone who has already operated production systems through a few painful incidents. If your professional experience is primarily internships or under two years post-graduation, this particular opening won't be a fit, but we'd still like to hear from you as we grow.
