Principal Software Engineer

As a Principal Software Engineer (SE V), you will provide technical leadership across multiple engineering teams, helping shape architecture, engineering standards, and technical direction while partnering with engineering and product leadership to deliver large-scale initiatives.

You will remain a hands-on contributor, working on our most complex projects while helping ensure the continued stability, scalability, and evolution of our enterprise application. Your work will have a direct impact on the day-to-day experience of thousands of customers.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership across multiple engineering teams and initiatives.
• Partner with engineering and product leadership to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
• Guide architectural decisions and help establish engineering standards and best practices across the organization.
• Design, develop, and evolve complex, scalable, and reliable software systems.
• Identify and address performance, scalability, reliability, and technical-debt concerns across the platform.
• Serve as a hands-on contributor to critical projects and complex technical challenges.
• Develop and maintain microservice APIs using C# and .NET.
• Develop and maintain our React-based web application and cross-platform .NET MAUI mobile applications.
• Evaluate and leverage Azure services to improve the scalability, reliability, performance, and operational efficiency of our platform.
• Provide thoughtful code and architectural reviews, particularly for complex or high-impact changes.
• Mentor engineers and technical leads, promoting sound engineering practices and supporting their technical growth.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and support teams to identify and solve customer and platform needs.
• Support and continuously improve the reliability and efficiency of our weekly production release process.
• Improve, modernize, and document existing systems and subsystems as the platform evolves.

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

• Proven experience designing and implementing complex, scalable production systems.
• Strong architectural and system-design skills, including experience making technical decisions that span multiple teams or systems.
• Strong understanding of software security, reliability, performance, and scalability best practices.
• Extensive experience with C# and .NET.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and distributed or microservice-based systems.
• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React.
• Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server.
• Experience with document databases such as Azure Cosmos DB or MongoDB.
• Experience with cloud platforms and services, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Familiarity with data and analytics platforms such as Microsoft Fabric.
• Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and communicate recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership across multiple projects or engineering teams.
• Strong commitment to software quality, maintainability, and clean engineering practices.

Education and Experience:

• 10+ years of experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field



Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

• Compensation Range: $170,000 - 230,000 DOE
