Job Description

Senior Shopify Developer (SAP Integration)

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Duration: 4 - 6 months (possible extension)

Location: Remote. Client teams are US-based; a daily overlap window with US business hours is required.

Description:

About This Job:

We are looking for a Senior Shopify Developer for one of our clients with deep SAP integration experience to build and extend Shopify Plus storefronts that run on top of SAP back-end systems. The work spans the full Shopify stack — themes, checkout, custom apps, and headless storefronts — with a strong emphasis on designing and operating the integration flows that keep Shopify and SAP ECC/S/4HANA in sync. You will work as part of a distributed truData team alongside the client’s own engineers, so the quality bar is high: clean architecture, platform best practices, and production-ready, reconciled data flows.

Key Responsibilities:

Development:

  • Design and build Shopify Plus storefront features, including themes (Liquid, JSON templates), checkout extensibility (Checkout UI extensions and Shopify Functions), and custom app development.
  • Build headless storefronts with Hydrogen where required, using the Storefront API and modern front-end practices.
  • Develop integrations against the GraphQL Admin and Storefront APIs, including webhooks, metafields/metaobjects, and bulk operations.
  • Design and implement Shopify–SAP integration flows — order-to-cash, inventory, pricing, and customer master sync — using iDocs, BAPIs, and OData services against SAP ECC and/or S/4HANA.
  • Build and maintain middleware integrations in SAP CPI/BTP Integration Suite, MuleSoft, or Boomi, including mapping, orchestration, and error handling.

Quality & Delivery:

  • Monitor and troubleshoot integration failures end to end (Shopify webhooks, middleware, SAP), and implement retry, alerting, and reconciliation patterns.
  • Unit test your work; fix defects fast during iteration cycles.
  • Participate in code reviews and follow team standards for performance, error handling, and logging.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 7+ years of web/e-commerce development, including 4+ years of hands-on Shopify development with recent Shopify Plus experience.
  • Expert-level Liquid theme development, checkout extensibility (Checkout UI extensions, Shopify Functions), and Shopify app development (custom and public apps, OAuth, webhooks).
  • Strong experience with the GraphQL Admin and Storefront APIs; hands-on experience building headless storefronts with Hydrogen or a comparable stack.
  • Proven SAP integration experience with ECC and/or S/4HANA, including iDocs, BAPIs, and OData services, and a solid grasp of common integration patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one middleware platform — SAP CPI/BTP Integration Suite, MuleSoft, or Boomi — delivering order-to-cash and inventory/pricing sync flows between Shopify and SAP in production.
  • Comfortable working in agile sprints on a distributed team; fluent English with daily overlap with US business hours.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Shopify certifications or SAP BTP/Integration Suite certification.
  • Experience with SAP Commerce (Hybris) or migrations from SAP Commerce to Shopify.
  • Experience with adjacent commerce integrations: tax engines (Avalara/Vertex), EDI, OMS/3PL, and payment reconciliation.
