The platform connects students with tutors through live one-to-one educational sessions inside an integrated collaborative learning environment that includes video communication, collaborative workspaces, interactive educational tools, and real-time learning systems.

Unlike traditional course-based platforms, APOLO focuses on personalized, live, on-demand learning where students book hourly sessions directly with tutors.

We are currently offering a Backend Developer Internship for junior developers looking to gain real-world experience contributing to a live product inside a startup environment.

This is a hands-on internship where you will collaborate with the engineering team, contribute to production-level systems, and strengthen your technical skills while working on a real platform.

Working Structure

• 6-month unpaid internship
• Fully remote
• Team collaboration is synchronous, not asynchronous
• Core working hours are Monday to Friday from 4:00 PM UTC to 7:00 PM UTC
• Direct collaboration with Backend, Frontend, QA, DevOps, and Product teams
• Opportunity to gain real startup and production-level development experience

Role Overview

As a Backend Developer Intern, you will help support backend development tasks across different platform areas while learning modern backend workflows, API development practices, and scalable application architecture.

You will contribute to active development tasks, collaborate with senior developers, participate in code reviews, and gain exposure to real-world engineering practices inside a fast-moving startup environment.

We are looking for someone motivated, curious, eager to learn, and comfortable working collaboratively within a technical team.

Responsibilities
Backend Development

• Support development and maintenance of backend services using Django and Node.js
• Help build and improve APIs used by web and platform systems
• Contribute to backend features related to:
• Authentication and authorization
• Booking systems
• Notifications
• User management
• Platform workflows
• Assist in implementing scalable and maintainable backend logic

Database & API Work

• Work with database models and backend data structures
• Write and optimize queries for relational databases
• Support API integration and backend communication workflows
• Help maintain clear and organized backend documentation

Real-Time & Platform Features

• Assist with backend systems supporting real-time platform functionality
• Help support collaborative platform features and background processing systems
• Participate in debugging and improving platform reliability and backend performance

Testing & Code Quality

• Write and maintain basic unit and integration tests
• Participate in code reviews and debugging sessions
• Follow backend coding standards and engineering best practices
• Help improve overall platform stability and code quality

Collaboration & Learning

• Collaborate with:
• Backend developers
• Frontend developers
• QA
• Product and Design teams
• Participate in sprint planning, technical discussions, and development workflows
• Learn production-level engineering practices inside a startup environment
• Contribute ideas, improvements, and solutions proactively

Requirements

• Basic to intermediate experience with:
• Python and Django
• JavaScript or TypeScript
• Node.js
• Basic understanding of:
• REST APIs
• HTTP requests
• JSON
• SQL and relational databases
• Familiarity with Git workflows and collaborative development environments
• Comfortable using development tools and command-line environments
• Strong willingness to learn and improve quickly
• Good communication and teamwork abilities
• Ability to work effectively during synchronous working hours
