Job Description

Job Title: Quality Engineering Technician

Job Summary

The Quality Engineering Technician supports various quality projects from inception through the testing phase. Responsibilities include assisting in the planning, development, and evaluation of new projects or processes. This role works collaboratively with other Quality Engineers and Process Engineering teams to ensure quality standards are met and to coordinate contributions for the successful completion of required quality projects.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements in the facility’s location, including adherence to the Global Operating System Plays, OHSAS 18001:2007, ISO 14001:2015, IATF 16949:2016, and Linamar Quality Basics system standards.
  • Promote and demonstrate Linamar’s Core Values and Leadership Behaviors in all aspects of work.
  • Maintain a balance between customer, employee, and financial satisfaction by managing performance indicators aligned with Linamar’s Stepping Stool of Success Strategy.
  • Support and maintain lean initiatives in accordance with LPS system requirements, ensuring compliance with 5S standards within the department.
  • Develop instructions for capability studies and APQP activities, ensuring compliance with all PPAP requirements and documentation, including supplier submissions.
  • Champion the monthly issuance of corrective action requests (8D) and drive improvements where necessary.
  • Provide training and guidance to quality inspectors and other team members.
  • Lead team meetings, document and report on continuous quality improvement activities, and participate in continuous improvement programs.
  • Perform and document machine and process capability studies, ensuring regular calibrations and troubleshooting of inspection machines.
  • Ensure all activities comply with IATF 16949 procedures and systems.
  • Maintain a clean and organized quality assurance work area, including light maintenance responsibilities.
  • Stay current with developments in the field by maintaining certifications, engaging in continuous learning, and reading work-related publications.
  • Take direction from Quality Engineering to meet department goals and objectives.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Academic/Educational Requirements

  • Applied Science degree or equivalent expertise gained through professional experience, training, or certifications.
  • Certified Quality Technician (CQT) certification preferred

Required Skills/Experience

  • Proficient in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to meet company attendance standards and follow given instructions.
  • Experience in automotive quality assurance is required.
  • Prior experience in dealing with customers and suppliers at a management level.
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 requirements and AIAG core tools.
  • Skilled in operating overhead cranes.
  • Strong data analysis skills, with working knowledge of Minitab, QC Calc, and MeasurLink .
  • CQE, CQA, and CQM certifications preferred.
  • Certification in machine programming (CMM, Gear CMMs, Shaft machines, etc.) is an advantage.
  • Previous experience in quality inspection/programming within a high-volume machine shop is preferred (3+ years).
  • Thorough knowledge of non-conforming material issues and the ability to make disposition decisions.
  • Skilled in interpreting machining drawings, diagrams, and callouts.
  • Proficient in using precise measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and angle finders.
  • Ability to evaluate and troubleshoot automated and mechanical gauges and tooling.
  • Proven ability to lead and train others in quality-related activities.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, production operators, and quality control staff.
