WordPress Web Designer & Developer (Remote Contractor)

About us

BSC Webdesign is a young web design agency based in Vienna, Austria. We are a team of three, all in our twenties, building modern websites for businesses across different industries.

We work in a flexible and straightforward way, travel frequently and care much more about great work, reliability and good communication than about where someone is located.

We are now looking for a WordPress Web Designer & Developer who wants to work with us on a long-term basis.

This is not intended to be a one-off freelance gig. Our goal is to find someone who gradually becomes a trusted external member of our team, understands our workflows and design standards and can take over more responsibility across client projects over time.

What you will do

• Build and design WordPress pages for client projects
• Turn existing concepts, layouts, references and content into polished websites
• Work within our established design systems and workflows
• Create responsive layouts that look great on desktop, tablet and mobile
• Make thoughtful design decisions instead of simply following instructions blindly
• Work with WordPress page builders as well as custom HTML and CSS where needed
• Improve spacing, typography, responsiveness and overall visual quality
• Support us across several ongoing client projects
• Communicate clearly about progress, questions and potential improvements

What we are looking for

• Strong WordPress experience
• Very good HTML and CSS skills
• A strong eye for modern web design, typography and spacing
• Experience building responsive websites
• Experience with tools such as Elementor, Avada, Gutenberg or similar builders
• Good written and spoken English
• Reliable communication and realistic deadlines
• Ability to follow an existing system while still thinking independently
• Attention to detail

German is not required. Some client websites are in German, but we provide the content and communicate internally in English where necessary.

How we work

We usually provide a clear direction, existing design elements, content and examples. At the beginning, we will work closely together so you can learn how we approach our projects.

Over time, we want you to become increasingly independent and be able to take a page or project from our briefing and turn it into a finished, polished result with minimal supervision.

We are not looking for someone who simply completes tickets. We appreciate people who notice details, ask smart questions and tell us when they see a better solution.

The working hours are flexible and the collaboration is remote and asynchronous for the most part. We only need reasonable availability for occasional calls and coordination.

We will first review your application and previous work. Please share a few websites or projects you are particularly proud of and briefly explain what your role was in each project, what you worked on personally and why you chose these examples.

A formal portfolio is not required. Links to a few relevant projects are completely fine. If you prefer, you can also send us a short Loom video walking us through some of your work. We would especially like to understand why you consider these projects some of your best work, what decisions you made and what you contributed to the final result.
