Job Title: Facilities Engineer
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Position Summary:
The Facilities Engineer is responsible for managing facility-related contracts, capital improvement projects, vendor performance, and operational support services across distribution facilities. This role develops scopes of work, reviews contractor proposals and estimates, manages budgets, creates purchase requisitions within PentaSAP, and ensures the successful execution of facility and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will serve as the primary liaison between facility operations, contractors, service providers, procurement, and finance to ensure facilities are maintained safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
Primary Responsibilities:
Contract & Vendor Management
- Administer and manage facility service contracts, including review and approval of out-of-scope work, including but not limited to: Landscaping and snow removal services, Janitorial services, Facility maintenance services, Material Handling Equipment (MHE) rentals, Scale calibrations and Uniform services
- Solicit, evaluate, and recommend vendor proposals and competitive bids.
- Review contractor pricing, estimates, and scopes of work for accuracy, completeness, and cost-effectiveness.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with established service level agreements.
- Coordinate regional construction contractors and specialty service providers.
- Support contract renewals, scope development, and vendor performance reviews.
Procurement & Budget Management
- Create and manage purchase requisitions and service requests utilizing PentaSAP.
- Track operating expenses and capital expenditures against approved budgets.
- Review contractor invoices and validate completed work prior to payment approval.
- Support annual budget forecasting, accrual reporting, and expense planning.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality and operational effectiveness.
Capital Project Management
- Support the planning, development, and execution of facility capital improvement projects.
- Coordinate facility renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and building improvements.
- Support project budgeting, contractor coordination, scheduling, and project closeout activities.
- Attend project meetings with stakeholders and contractors.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Facility Operations Support
- Support day-to-day facility operations across locations.
- Serve as the primary facilities point of contact for building-related operational issues and service requests.
- Coordinate emergency repairs and facility service interruptions.
- Monitor facility conditions and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support maintenance and reliability initiatives to improve facility performance.
- Coordinate facility support activities with Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Corporate Facilities teams.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure contractor compliance with corporate safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support OSHA compliance activities and facility audits.
- Participate in risk assessments and corrective action implementation.
- Promote a safe working environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Support environmental, health, and safety initiatives to maintain regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
Key Must’ Have’s:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in facilities management, construction management, project management, or contractor administration.
- Experience reviewing contractor proposals, estimates, and bid packages.
- Experience managing service contracts and vendor relationships.
- Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and cost control practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Experience using SAP or PentaSAP procurement systems.
- Experience in warehouse, distribution center, manufacturing, automotive, or logistics environments.
- Knowledge of building systems and facility infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Experience managing capital budgets and construction projects.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent project management experience.
- Experience managing service contracts, bid packages, and contractor negotiations.
- Experience supporting distribution center, warehouse, or logistics facility operations.
