About the job
We’re looking for a curious, hands-on Product Designer to join Appricot, a boutique product design and consulting studio helping technology companies turn complex AI, SaaS, cybersecurity, and fintech products into clear, useful, and scalable experiences.
This is not a role focused only on producing polished screens.
We’re looking for a designer who can go deep into a product, understand users, business goals, technical constraints, and complex systems, and translate them into thoughtful product experiences.
The right person is genuinely interested in AI and modern product-building workflows. You should be comfortable experimenting, prototyping, and working closer to the technology—not simply handing off a Figma file and moving on.
What you’ll do
• Work on product design projects for technology companies and startups
• Research and define user problems, journeys, flows, and product concepts
• Design complex workflows, wireframes, prototypes, and polished interfaces
• Use AI tools to accelerate research, ideation, prototyping, and execution
• Help design AI-powered experiences, agents, assistants, and workflows
• Create and refine prompts, instructions, skills, and structured AI interactions
• Create, maintain, and work with design systems and reusable components
• Collaborate closely with founders, product teams, and developers
• Present your thinking and clearly explain your design decisions
• Contribute throughout the full product design process, from early strategy to execution
What we’re looking for
• 3–5 years of product design experience
• A portfolio that demonstrates strong product thinking and an end-to-end process—not only polished visuals
• Experience designing complex products, preferably B2B, SaaS, or developer-facing platforms
• Strong UX skills combined with solid visual and UI design abilities
• Hands-on experience using AI tools as part of the design and product-development process
• Experience creating prompts, AI workflows, agents, skills, or functional prototypes
• Technical curiosity and the ability to read and understand basic front-end code
• Familiarity with tools such as GitHub, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI-assisted development environments
• Confidence navigating a codebase, making small changes, or collaborating closely with engineers
• Independence, reliability, attention to detail, and strong time-management skills
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Based in Texas and authorized to work in the United States
Nice to have
• Experience building functional prototypes beyond Figma
• Familiarity with React, HTML, CSS, or JavaScript
• Experience designing conversational interfaces or AI-native products
• Experience working in a consultancy, agency, or fast-moving startup environment
Role details
This is a part-time, hourly position of approximately 15 hours per week, with the potential to grow based on project needs.
This role is a strong fit for a designer who wants to work on meaningful and varied product challenges, contribute to strategic and technical decisions, and develop new ways of designing and building products with AI.
