About the job

The Supplier Quality Engineer works closely with supply chain, quality, manufacturing, and engineering to facilitate and manage successful supplier partnerships that support HarcoSemco’s supply chain objectives. The Supplier Quality Engineer supports the supply chain in selecting and qualifying suppliers. In addition, the Supplier Quality Engineer maintains supplier performance metrics and measurements, facilitates product and process improvements, and manages compliance with quality requirements. The Supplier Quality Engineer also provides engineering and technical assistance to suppliers as required, establishes, compiles, produces, and analyzes quality reports to improve quality levels, and implements corrective and preventive actions as appropriate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the organization’s Supplier Quality by ensuring the adequacy of Suppliers’ Quality Management System (QMS), Quality Assurance and Control programs at suppliers.
  • Lead key processes, including but not limited to: Supplier audits, surveillance, issuance of Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), and Supplier Quality performance ratings.
  • Work with technical groups on defining supplier specifications as appropriate.
  • Monitor the quality performance of our suppliers and regularly conduct reviews and take necessary actions to ensure compliance.
  • Analyze suppliers’ quality performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and work with suppliers to implement.
  • Manage supplier non-conformances (including root cause analysis, 8D investigations, containment, and corrective and preventive actions).
  • Participate in suppliers’ work transfer qualification and monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate and current Supplier quality records, including supplier audits, certifications, and supplier corrective action responses.
  • Ensure suppliers’ compliance with the QMS standards, regulations, and customers’ requirements. (ISO9001/AS9100, AS13100, Nadcap, FAA)
  • Define and manage key supplier quality metrics.
  • Enhance and manage the current Approved Supplier List (ASL) to ensure full control over suppliers and audit compliance.
  • Create and manage a supplier corrective action database.
  • Participate in the MRB activities and meetings.
  • Work with receiving inspection, create and update inspection plans, and provide guidance and support as required.
  • Develop supplier quality policies and procedures as required.
  • Perform supplier capability, quality, and risk assessments as required.
  • Travel internationally and domestically up to 40% as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Quality.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering. Professional-level experience may substitute for the degree as appropriate.
  • 3+ years of Quality experience
  • 3+ years of Supplier Quality auditing experience
  • Certified AS9100 Lead Auditor or be able to be certified within the first 3 months of employment
  • Broad knowledge of theory and principles of statistics and statistical process control.
  • Strong knowledge of root cause analysis, 8D, and continuous improvements
  • Strong understanding of AS9100 and ISO9001 standards
  • Experience with product qualification activities or inspection/control
  • Demonstrate proficiency with MS Software packages, including but not limited to Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Power BI
  • Experience utilizing manufacturing or ERP software required– Visual a plus.
  • Aerospace industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of process improvement methods and techniques, such as Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Problem-solving skills using methodical and systematic approaches.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Highly proficient with the various MS Office programs.
  • Working knowledge of statistical software packages such as MINITAB.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Work in an office and manufacturing environment.
  • Travel required up to 40% to vendors and other manufacturing locations.
  • May be exposed to routine noise from the manufacturing plant floor.
  • Must be able to push, pull, and lift at least 20 lbs. unaided.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, reach, bend, and grasp equipment, tools, or inventory.
  • Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)as necessary when working in areas on the manufacturing plant floor.

This position requires either a US Person (as defined in applicable export regulations) or a non-US Person who is eligible to obtain the required export authorization.
